Biography

Professional Career

Felix Alvarado began his professional journey on March 12, 2010, with a first-round TKO victory over Julio Hernandez at Gimnasio Alexis Argüello in Managua. This early success set the tone for his career, which saw him consistently finish opponents with his knockout power. Alvarado continued to dominate in his early fights, securing wins such as a first-round TKO against Lester Berrios on March 27, 2010, and a third-round KO against Yader Cardoza on April 24, 2010. By the end of 2010, he had amassed an 8-0 record, with notable victories including a second-round TKO over Pedro Blandon on October 23, 2010.

In 2011, Alvarado extended his unbeaten streak, defeating opponents like Jose Martinez with a first-round TKO on February 5 and earning a majority decision over Arnoldo Solano on June 18. His momentum continued as he claimed the Nicaraguan light flyweight title by unanimous decision against Eliecer Quezada on December 17, 2011. Alvarado’s knockout streak resumed in 2012 with decisive wins, including a first-round TKO against Miguel Alfaro on June 30. He further established himself by stopping Nerys Espinoza in the third round on December 15, 2012. His career continued to flourish with victories in Costa Rica, where he defeated Carlos Melo by first-round KO on April 27, 2013, and Ramon Pena by first-round TKO on June 29, 2013.

Despite facing setbacks in title fights, such as a unanimous decision loss to Kazuto Ioka for the WBA (Regular) light flyweight title on December 31, 2013, in Osaka, Japan, and another unanimous decision loss to Juan Carlos Reveco for the WBA (Regular) flyweight title on June 6, 2014, in Argentina, Alvarado remained a formidable contender. He rebounded strongly, capturing the vacant WBC Latino light flyweight title by defeating Roberto Rodriguez with a first-round KO on January 27, 2017, in Managua. Alvarado retained this title multiple times, showcasing his knockout prowess with a series of first-round finishes against opponents like Gabriel Ruiz on February 24, 2017, and Luis de la Rosa on March 31, 2017.

Alvarado’s career reached new heights when he won the vacant IBF light flyweight title with a seventh-round TKO over Randy Petalcorin on October 29, 2018, in Pasay, Philippines. He successfully defended this title against Reiya Konishi by unanimous decision on May 19, 2019, in Kobe, Japan, and later against Deejay Kriel with a tenth-round TKO on January 2, 2021, in Dallas, Texas. Continuing his impressive run, Alvarado delivered a first-round KO against Israel Vasquez on August 14, 2021, and a fourth-round KO over Luis Cerrito Hernandez on May 21, 2022. However, his quest for the IBF flyweight title ended in a unanimous decision loss to Sunny Edwards on November 11, 2022, in Sheffield, England. Alvarado bounced back with a fourth-round TKO victory over Armando Torres on June 10, 2023, at Miccosukee Resort & Gaming in Miami, Florida.
