Early Life and Amateur Career

 

Erik Bazinyan was born on May 21, 1995, in Yerevan, Armenia. Growing up in a country with a rich boxing tradition, Bazinyan was inspired by the sport from a young age. His family moved to Canada when he was a child, settling in Montreal, Quebec, where he would later begin his boxing training. At the age of 10, Bazinyan joined a local boxing gym and quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the sport. His dedication and work ethic were evident from the start, as he trained tirelessly to hone his skills.

 

Bazinyan’s amateur boxing career was marked by numerous achievements and significant victories. Competing in various local and national tournaments, he quickly made a name for himself within the Canadian boxing community. One of his early notable successes came in 2011 when he won the Canadian Junior National Championships, a victory that highlighted his potential and set the stage for his future endeavors. Throughout his amateur career, Bazinyan faced several formidable opponents, gaining valuable experience and refining his techniques. In 2012, he competed in the National Youth Championships, where he showcased his prowess and secured another championship title. His performance in these tournaments earned him a spot on the Canadian national boxing team, where he represented his adopted country in international competitions.

Bazinyan made his professional debut on September 21, 2013, with a first-round knockout victory over Matt Heim at the Halifax Forum in Halifax, Canada. This emphatic start set the stage for a career characterized by a relentless pursuit of excellence and an impressive string of victories. Bazinyan quickly built a reputation as a formidable puncher, securing multiple wins by knockout. His early professional years were marked by a series of TKO victories, including a third-round TKO against Alexandre Bouvier on March 21, 2014, and a first-round KO against Victor Manuel Palacios on November 7, 2014. These wins showcased his ability to dominate opponents early in fights and his rising prominence in the Canadian boxing scene.

 

By 2016, Bazinyan had captured his first title, winning the vacant WBO Youth super middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Aro Schwartz on September 3. This victory was a significant milestone, demonstrating his ability to compete over longer distances and against higher-caliber opponents. Bazinyan continued to defend his titles successfully, including notable wins against Bernard Donfack and Ferenc Albert in 2017 and 2018, respectively. His career continued to ascend as he captured the NABO and NABA super middleweight titles, defeating David Zegarra by TKO on June 23, 2018. Bazinyan’s dominance in the ring was evident as he defended these titles against various contenders, including Francy Ntetu, Ricardo Adrian Luna, and Alan Campa. In 2021, Bazinyan added the NABF super middleweight title to his collection with a second-round TKO victory over Scott Sigmon on June 4 in Mexico. He continued his winning streak with significant victories over Reinaldo Paniagua and Marcelo Esteban Coceres in 2022. Bazinyan’s relentless pursuit of excellence led to a series of successful title defenses, including a majority decision win against Alantez Fox on February 2, 2023, and a unanimous decision over Jose de Jesus Macias on June 1, 2023. Bazinyan’s impressive performance in the ring was highlighted by his knockout victory over Ronald Ellis on October 11, 2023, and a TKO win against Billi Facundo Godoy on January 25, 2024. His most recent fight on May 2, 2024, saw him retain the NABF super middleweight title and capture the vacant WBA Continental (North America) super middleweight title with a split decision draw against Shakeel Phinn at the Montreal Casino in Montreal, Canada.
