Biography

Professional Career

Beginning his journey on January 31, 2015, Edwards made a strong debut with a fourth-round TKO victory over Craig Derbyshire at The O2 Arena in London. This win set the tone for his early career, characterized by a series of decisive victories, including a third-round TKO win against Mikheil Soloninkini in Sheffield. As Edwards continued to climb the ranks, he secured the English flyweight title with a unanimous decision victory over Louis Norman on September 12, 2015, at The O2 Arena. He then successfully defended this title against Phil Smith, winning by a sixth-round TKO at the Manchester Arena. Edwards further solidified his status as a rising star by capturing the vacant WBC International Silver flyweight title with a unanimous decision over Luke Wilton in Manchester.

One of the pivotal moments in Edwards’ career came when he challenged John Riel Casimero for the IBF flyweight title on September 10, 2016, at The O2 Arena. Despite his efforts, Edwards suffered his first professional loss, being stopped in the tenth round. Undeterred, he rebounded with several wins, including a third-round TKO over Georgi Georgiev and a unanimous decision victory against Iain Butcher to win the vacant British super flyweight title.

Edwards’ career reached new heights when he won the WBC flyweight title by defeating Cristofer Rosales via unanimous decision on December 22, 2018, at The O2 Arena. He successfully defended this title against Angel Moreno, showcasing his skills with a dominant unanimous decision victory. However, his title defense against Julio Cesar Martinez on August 31, 2019, ended in controversy. Originally declared a knockout victory for Martinez, the bout was later ruled a no-contest after Edwards was hit while on one knee.

In the following years, Edwards continued to demonstrate his prowess in the ring. He secured a points victory over Kyle Williams and a second-round TKO win against Jacob Barreto. His most recent fight on June 9, 2023, saw him earn a points victory over Darwin Martinez at the Bowlers Exhibition Centre in Manchester, maintaining his impressive record.
