Professional Career
Carlos Cuadras, a distinguished Mexican boxer, has had a remarkable career, punctuated by numerous significant victories and some hard-fought losses. He began his professional journey on May 31, 2008, with a first-round TKO win against Marco Turriza at the Centro Internacional de Convenciones in Chetumal, Mexico. Demonstrating his knockout power early on, Cuadras swiftly amassed a series of victories, often ending fights in the initial rounds. By 2011, Cuadras had already claimed the WBC Continental Americas super flyweight title with a second-round TKO victory over Johnny Garcia. This win was a precursor to his dominance in the super flyweight division. His ascent continued as he captured the WBC Youth Intercontinental super flyweight title in February 2010, defeating Oswaldo Rodriguez via a fifth-round TKO.
Cuadras’ career hit a significant milestone on May 31, 2014, when he won the WBC super flyweight title against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. The bout, held in Iztacalco, Mexico, ended in a technical decision after eight rounds due to a cut from an accidental head clash. Cuadras successfully defended his title several times, including victories over notable opponents like Luis Concepción and Richie Mepranum. However, his reign as champion ended on September 10, 2016, when he lost a unanimous decision to Román González at The Forum in Inglewood, California.
Despite this setback, Cuadras remained a formidable contender. He faced Juan Francisco Estrada twice, with their first encounter on September 9, 2017, resulting in a unanimous decision loss for Cuadras. Their rematch on October 23, 2020, saw Estrada securing a TKO victory in the eleventh round, further solidifying their intense rivalry.
In recent years, Cuadras continued to demonstrate his resilience and skill. On September 14, 2019, he earned a majority decision win against Jose Maria Cardenas at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. He followed this up with a unanimous decision victory over Daniel Lozano in May 2019. Cuadras’ pursuit of championship glory led him to face Jesse Rodríguez for the vacant WBC super flyweight title on February 5, 2022, but he fell short, losing by unanimous decision. Undeterred, Cuadras bounced back in 2023 with a unanimous decision win over Lamberto Macias and a TKO victory against Juan Carlos Mireles. His perseverance paid off on November 17, 2023, when he secured a split decision victory over Pedro Guevara at the Humo Arena in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to win the vacant WBC Interim super flyweight title.
