Early Life and Professional Career
Alexis Rocha was born on July 7, 1997, in Santa Ana, California. Growing up in a family with a rich boxing background, Rocha was inspired by his older brother, Ronny Rios, who is also a professional boxer. This early exposure to the sport played a significant role in shaping Alexis’s interest and dedication to boxing from a young age.
Rocha began his amateur boxing career at the age of 12. He quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the sport, combining his physical prowess with a keen tactical mind. Throughout his amateur career, Rocha participated in numerous local and national tournaments, where he honed his skills and built a formidable reputation. One of his notable achievements came in 2014 when he won the USA Boxing Junior National Championship. This victory marked a significant milestone in his career, showcasing his potential to excel on larger stages. Rocha’s success continued as he went on to win the 2015 USA Boxing Youth National Championship.
Professional Career
Rocha’s debut came on May 6, 2016, where he secured a TKO victory over Abdel Vera in the first round, setting the tone for his aggressive fighting style. One of Rocha’s significant early career highlights was his bout against Berlin Abreu on July 13, 2019. This fight, held at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, saw Rocha dominate Abreu, resulting in an eighth-round knockout. This victory earned him the WBC Continental Americas Welter title, marking a critical milestone in his professional journey.
In 2020, Rocha faced a formidable opponent in Rashidi Ellis. This bout, which took place on October 30 at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, ended in a unanimous decision loss for Rocha. Despite the defeat, Rocha bounced back with a series of victories, including a notable win against Jeovanis Barraza on November 13, 2021. Rocha stopped Barraza in the ninth round, showcasing his resilience and determination to remain a top contender in the welterweight division.
