Felix Sturm Dominates Benjamin Blindert In A Third-Round Stoppage

Felix Sturm produced a stunning performance to beat Benjamin Blindert via a third-round stoppage in their light heavyweight fight.
Sturm dropped his man four times on his way to getting the stoppage. The five-time world champion showed his class immediately from the first round. He began on the front foot, connecting with a solid right hand to buzz Blindert. The latter had the height and reach advantage. But Sturm was able to close the gap and get his shots off. This showed as he secured a knockdown in the first. A right hand over the top sent Blindert to the floor. While he got off the canvas, Sturm continued to hunt his man down.
The second round saw Blindert trying to use his jab more to keep his opponent away. But it merely delayed the inevitable. Sturm found clear openings, landing two uppercuts in a row to drop Blindert. He got back up to his feat. However, he fell down again after another right hand. Blindert showed major resolve to continue, but a body shot sent him to the floor again. The referee intervened to stop the fight, as Strum extended his record to 45-6-3. The win was all the more impressive since Sturm had been absent from the ring for 14 months. At the age of 46, he showed that he still could compete, justifying his pre-fight comments.
Sturm’s Belief
“Benjamin Blindert is a man who says something to the boxing connoisseurs in Germany. He will definitely give everything, try everything. In my experience, when it comes to fighting me, people naturally want to shine and want to show everything they’ve got to convince me and try to beat me. Of course, I also know that people expect me to win clearly.
“I train for that. I’m simply preparing myself for the best Benjamin Blindert there has ever been. And that’s it for now. I only have the fight on February 15 in mind. This will mark Sturm’s first appearance in 14-months; however, this isn’t something that concerns him, in fact he feels it may well help him. I always cope very, very well with these long breaks. [And] I keep fit, of course. I don’t do too much. But then, when I’m in training, I give 100 percent. And then I get into it very, very quickly.
“You can’t unlearn boxing that quickly. I love this sport; I’ve always loved this sport and we’re noticing it now. I’m getting better day-by-day. We’re in the last week now, we’ve done a lot of sparring. “I’ve never lacked motivation, and I have a goal in mind. I believe that when you have a goal in mind, everything in life is easier. And my goal right now is to win this [WBA Gold] title and then recommend myself for another world championship. Of course, it’s a very, very big dream of mine to box for another world championship. Despite being 46 years old, I still feel very, very good,” Sturm said
