Fans Worried About Mike Tyson’s Health After Training Footage – ‘He’s Not Well’
Fans have expressed worries over Mike Tyson’s health following his latest training footage.
Tyson pulled out of his Jake Paul fight, which was set for July 20, after suffering an inflamed ulcer. The fight was rescheduled for November 15 after suggestions that Tyson could pull out altogether. Mike will be 58 when he enters the ring against Paul, who is 27. Tyson has not had a professional fight since his 2005 loss to Kevin McBride. While he had an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, that is not enough to prepare him for Paul.
The Problem Child has been much more active. He has had three stoppage wins in a row since last December. He has beaten Andre August, Ryan Bourland and Mike Perry in his last bout. The fight does nothing for either person’s legacy. Tyson is a former Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, having beaten Tony Tucker. Meanwhile, Paul aims to win a world title. A win over Tyson does nothing to take Paul closer to being a world champion. In fact, a loss damages his career altogether.
Tyson’s Training
That has created the perception that both men are doing it for money. Reports indicate they will receive at least $20 million. That does not include any sponsorships that will follow. The fight will air on Netflix, making it an historic event as the platform will broadcast the first ever combat sports bout. To prepare himself for it, Tyson showed off his skills.
The following footage here shows Tyson throwing numerous combinations. While he does look explosive, there is a perception that Tyson is only doing this for money. The boxer risks harming himself. Evander Holyfield made a comeback at 58 against Victor Belfort in 2021. However, he suffered extensive damage after being dropped in the first round. His reaction times were no longer the same, as the fight was stopped in the first round. That could backfire against Tyson. Physio Dave Hancock had this to say.
The Dangers
“Looking from the outside, Mike Tyson’s comeback is purely money-driven. If someone’s gonna offer you, X to do Y, you can make a decision whether to do that or not at any age – so therefore your incentive is cash.
“Therefore you will be prepared to put your body on the line in those circumstances in that sport because you know the reward is the cash. But physically, as a medical person, I think it could be catastrophic. Especially at that age, because reflexes are reduced, his reaction time’s reduced, he’s not as fit as he used to be.
“There might be cardiothoracic issues, pulmonary issues, all sorts of issues that you’ve inherited as you’ve got older, lifestyle issues, you’re not living the same as what you were doing when you were training. But at the end of the day, money talks, going back to the same scenarios about footballers going on end-of-season trips and pre-season trips, it’s because there are huge amounts of money involved.”
