Fans Unhappy With Paul's Win Over Tyson - 'Just Canceled My Netflix'

Fans reacted to Jake Paul’s unanimous decision win against Mike Tyson following their dull encounter on Netflix, saying they will cancel their subscription.

Paul came out victorious in a fight which failed to live up to the hype: 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73. During the final weigh-in, Tyson slapped Paul, resulting in a huge reaction from Jake, who stated Mike would die. According to reports, Jake earned a reported $40 million from this fight. Meanwhile, Tyson earned $20 million. The event drew in a big crossover fan base, with over 60,000 people in attendance. Before the fight, there were question marks over whether it was going to be a proper bout. Some in the boxing community questioned whether it would be scripted or a runaround, more akin to an exhibition. Some of those who expressed that view were Teddy Atlas and Carl Froch

Pre-Fight Perception

“I’ve heard and believe that there is something in the contract which means Tyson can’t even try and hurt him. I’m sure if Tyson did land a big left or right hook on the chin of Jake Paul then he could render him unconscious … I can’t really see that happening, though. In my view it’s all fixed in advance for Paul, and Tyson won’t have the opportunity to do that,” Carl Froch

“My only question … is it real? Maybe it is, I would hope it is… But is there going to be an honest effort to do what is always looking to be done, to go and destroy that guy, to knock him out?” Teddy Atlas

Dull Fight

The fight did not deliver. Tyson was trying to close the distance, while Paul was boxing on the outside in the first round. Tyson landed some jabs as Jake was clinching when Mike got in close. Paul landed to the body in the second round before landing three consecutive left hooks in the third.

Tyson resorted to biting his glove throughout the fight. He was also moving gingerly. It turned out he was wearing a compression sleeve to deal with a knee injury. Paul could have imposed his will had he wanted to. He worked the midsection in the fifth round. Once Tyson lowered his hands, Jake caught him upstairs with a right hand.

The pair made it to the final bell as they boxed for the rest of the rounds. Jake bowed to Tyson to show his admiration. However, fans were not impressed by what they had seen.

Post-Fight

“I didn’t prove nothing to anybody, only to myself. I’m not one of those guys who look to please the world. I’m just happy (with) what I can do. I don’t know [if I will retire]. It depends on the situation. (But) I don’t think so. It beats biting ears [over why he bit his gloves]. Yeah but I can’t use that as an excuse. If I did, I wouldn’t be in here,” Tyson

“First and foremost, Mike Tyson—it’s an honor. Let’s give it up for Mike, bro. He’s a legend; he’s the greatest to ever do it. [And] he’s the GOAT. I look up to him. I’m inspired by him, and we wouldn’t be here today without him. This man is an icon. … It’s just an honor to be able to fight him. He’s obviously the toughest, baddest man on the planet. So it was really tough like I expected it to be,” Paul
