Fans React After Hearns Speaks At Trump’s Rally – ‘He Was Something Special’
Boxing fans reacted to Tommy Hearns joining Donald Trump on stage to support his US Presidential run.
Trump was present at Huntington Place in Detroit, where he was seen alongside Hearns. Hearns then made his way to Trump’s rally, where the former US President saw him in the crowd. Trump invited Hearns to the stage, and they shared a moment and exchanged some words.
Trump And Hearns
“I won so much money betting on this guy. … Some of the greatest fights in history. One of the greatest fights of all time, and man, I’ll tell you what, he was something special,” Trump
“Hearing those nice words coming from you, man, this can’t be real. … Hearing it come from you, I’m very excited. I want to fight now,” Hearns
Hearns is one of the best boxers the sport has ever seen. Hearns boxed as a pro from 1977 to 2006. He was the first person to become a fifth-weight world champion, winning belts at welterweight, light middleweight, middleweight, super middleweight and light heavyweight. Tommy was also involved in some of the most iconic fights in the sport.
He took on Sugar Ray Leonard in 1981 where the two fighters generated a record $17 million purse between themselves at the time. However, the result did not go his way. He lost his first fight via a knockout after having won his first 32 bouts. They would have a rematch, but the result ended in a draw. He was also involved in one of the most iconic fights against Marvin Hagler in 1985. Hearns was knocked out, but he looked back at it with fond memories since Marvin is no longer here.
Hearns On Hagler
“The only thing I remember is that we went at it. There was no joking around. I don’t think we’ve ever been in a fight like that. We didn’t know how to prepare for a fight like that. It really showed that we had something to prove to each other and we did just that.
“I had the chance to talk to Marvin. I got to chance to hear what Marvin thinks. People thought that I had something bad to say about Ray and Hagler. Hagler and I fought, he defeated me, and that was it. He did a great job. Today, I miss the man. He was a great man, and he did great things in his life. I have nothing bad to say about Marvin he’s always been a good person to me,” Hearns said
His last fight as a world champion happened against Nate Miller when Hearns picked up the vacant IBO Cruiserweight Title. His last bout was in 2006, when he stopped Shannon Landberg. He would end his career with a 61-5-1 record. Fans had plenty to say about his collaboration with Trump, especially since the latter has gotten the endorsement of a big name.
