Fans Convinced McGregor Will Never Fight Again
Fans are worried about Conor McGregor’s recent behavior and feel the Irishman will never fight in the UFC again.
McGregor pulled out his UFC 303 fight against Michael Chandler, which was set for June 29. The Notorious had to withdraw after breaking his toe, leaving fans frustrated. He has not had a UFC fight since losing to Dustin Poirier in 2021 at UFC 264. The defeat took his record to three losses out of his four previous fights. The loss was also more challenging since McGregor had broken his leg. The rivalry with Chandler has been brewing for some time.
They were rival coaches on the TUF 31 series, which Chandler’s team won. However, McGregor got his revenge in the coach’s challenge. Dana White has confirmed that McGregor will fight early next year. However, Chandler has moved on since then, as he will rematch Charles Oliveira at UFC 309. While Chandler has said that he still wants to face McGregor, there is no guarantee that it will happen.
The outcome of the Oliveira rematch will play an integral part in this. A win for Chandler will take him a step closer to securing a title shot, something he has spoken about. He is 38 years old and has only had five UFC fights, meaning that time is running out to create his legacy. A one-sided defeat for Chandler may also reduce the calls to make the McGregor fight. McGregor has also expressed his desire to face other fighters, such as Nate Diaz in a trilogy and a fourth fight against Poirier.
McGregor’s Behavior
MacGregor was in attendance to watch Anthony Joshua take on Daniel Dubois, which also raised many alarm bells. The following video shows McGregor arriving into the arena with a cigar in his mouth. He has also been pictured during various periods throughout this year, attending nightclubs and drinking his Forge Irish Stout beverage. This runs counter to a disciplined athlete, with many fans worried that McGregor will never fight again. He has two fights left on his UFC deal and has expressed his desire to fight in BKFC later down the line.
However, his social media activity may suggest otherwise. The post above shows a fan stating that McGregor would never fight again. The Irishman allegedly responded by liking the post, raising serious questions about whether McGregor is in the right frame of mind to enter the Octagon again.
McGregor’s Future
Nevertheless, there is still a demand to see the Irishman fight. The press conference for the UFC 303 fight was sold out in just nine minutes. The card was also on projection to exceed the $20 million mark. McGregor was asked over his future during the build-up of Joshua and Dubois’ fight. He was adamant about returning to the Octagon early next year, and Chandler was still the main priority.
“It will be 2025. It is what it is. I just take it on board and just rock on. And my job is just to be in the gym, be in the gym, be in shape. One thing is for sure: whenever it is, and wherever it is, I will be 100 percent ready. That’s all I can focus on right now. Man, who knows now? It does not matter. I’d like it to be Chandler; I’d like that to be squared away. I wish him well against Oliveira, but let’s see how it goes,” McGregor said
