Fans Claim Gervonta Davis Is Ruining His Career After Fight Delay!
Boxing fans are convinced that Gervonta Davis is ruining his career following reports that his fight with Lamont Roach Jr. has been rescheduled for March 1.
Davis was expected to fight Roach Jr. on December 14. However, reports indicated there were problems with the venue, as Davis hoped to be out in January. That was then rescheduled after reports that David Benavidez vs. David Morrell Jr. was going to take place on February 1, meaning it made no sense to have two fights in such close proximity. Now, the fight is going to take place on March 1, subject to a venue being found. The Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, is not possible as the Houston Rockets take on the Sacramento Kings on that same date. The bout could take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Davis Vs. Roach Jr.
The fight has already received a lot of criticism. Roach Jr. will be moving up from 130 pounds, meaning that Davis will be the heavy favorite. He has already faced fighters who have moved up in weight. Davis knocked out Leo Santa Cruz after he moved up from 126 pounds to take the fight at 130.
The same happened when Davis faced Hector Garcia, who was the WBA champion at 130. He moved up to face Tank at 135 pounds. Once again, Davis stopped him to secure another win. Davis’ boxing record since 2022 has caused alarm bells. Since then, he has only faced Rolando Romero, Hector Garcia, Ryan Garcia and Frank Martin. That means Davis has only fought four times since 2022.
Since he is at the peak of his career, with many big fights out there for him, fans have understandably expressed worry. Fights against Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, Shakur Stevenson and the Ryan Garcia rematch are all plausible fights. Those fights would earn Davis by far the biggest purses out there. He has already shown the dangers of what can happen by waiting too long. Vasiliy Lomachenko appears reluctant to take a Davis fight. He is 36 years old. He is near the end of his career, so he has no need to take such a risk.
Ellerbe On Davis
Haney could also end up moving to 147, meaning that a fight is even more unlikely. The time to make the Haney fight is at 140 since Davis had boxed there before when he defeated Mario Barrios. The same goes for Ryan Garcia, who recently confirmed that he can no longer make 140 pounds. His comeback fight is likely to be at 147 or at a catchweight fight above 140, meaning that Davis has a limited amount of time to make that fight. But Leonard Ellerbe appeared relaxed, saying Tank would reveal all.
“Stay tuned. Lamont Roach is still the opponent. It’s all about timing. It’s Tank over everybody. None of these guys can [mess] with Tank – not one of them. I’m excited to see him get these names out of the way because it’s going to happen. I don’t want to say anybody’s name, but it’s just a matter of time. Line them up, and Tank is going to knock each of them down, whomever that might be,” Ellerbe said
