Fans Call For Jake Paul Vs. Bobby Lashley Fight
Fans have called for a fight between Jake Paul and Bobby Lashley.
The interest comes as Lashley is considering a comeback to fighting. He had a career that spanned across WWE and MMA. He started in WWE before announcing his departure in 2009. He would soon take part in Strikeforce as he developed his reputation as a heavyweight. He secured a 4-0 record before the UFC bought Strikeforce.
Lashley did not join the UFC as he found his home in Bellator. He expanded his reputation further with a 5-0 record that included all stoppage wins. He left Bellator in 2016 and was being linked with a comeback against Fedor Emelianenko. However, those plans did not work out, as Lashley joined WWE in 2018. He remained there before leaving the organization this summer. Now, he is considering a return in some form to fighting.
Lashley Reacts
“I’m doing it all. I look at it this way — first of all, YOLO, you only live once but I have a lot of gas in the tank. I’m in great shape. I feel good. I’m motivated. I’m rested. Wrestling, yes. Boxing, yes, MMA, yes. Acting, yes. Everything, yes. But I have a lot of different things going on right now. A boxing company called me and offered me a legit matchup. So we’re in talks with them, so I’ve been training boxing. I love boxing. MMA is a possibility. Just depending on [what offers come],” Lashley said
A boxing fight against Paul offers him a bigger payday. Paul may fight as a cruiserweight, but he is going up to be a heavyweight in his next fight against Mike Tyson. They square off on November 15 as the 58-year-old Tyson has his first pro fight since losing to Kevin McBride in 2005. Paul was criticized for making this fight, with suggestions that it could endanger either of them.
Lashley’s Skills
But now that it is going ahead, a fight with Lashley is not out of the question. It could also take place in MMA, as Paul is in line to make his PFL debut. Several MMA fighters, such as Nate Diaz and Tyron Woodley, were mentioned. If a boxing fight fails, Lashley has shown he has MMA skills. He even went as far as to state that he has better MMA skills than Brock Lesnar, who has competed in the UFC.
“Without trying to disrespect him, I don’t know what he’s capable of doing as far as skill-wise. I mean, I taught boxing, I taught jiu-jitsu at my gym, and what I tried to do was I ran with Strikeforce there for a while and then I had a little hiccup where I took some smaller fights and when I did those smaller fights, what I was doing was sharpening my ax, that’s what I used to say.
“I was really learning my boxing, really taking sometime to get some jiu-jitsu in there, sharpening my wrestling skills. So I turned into somewhat of a student of the game. So as far as skill-for-skill and knowledge for knowledge, I think that I have a lot more than he does in it,” Lashley stated
