The undercard for Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn rematch on November 15 has received backlash.

The co-main event is a welterweight clash between Jack Catterall and Ekow Essuman. Catterall will be making his first appearance under the guidance of new trainer “Bozy” Ennis, looking to capitalize on his recent technical decision win over Harlem Eubank which helped him bounce back from a loss to Arnold Barboza Jr. Essuman, meanwhile, scored a major upset in May by defeating Josh Taylor, a victory that sent the former undisputed champion into retirement.

The Fights

Elsewhere on the card, undefeated lightweight prospect Adam Azim looks to secure his fifth consecutive knockout. He faces his toughest test to date in veteran Zaur Abdullaev, who is looking to rebound after his nine-fight win streak was snapped by Raymond Muratalla in May.

While the undercard for the Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Conor Benn rematch features highly competitive matchups, some critics might view the card as “bad”. Catterall, a former world title challenger, needs to be fighting for world honors immediately to capitalize on his profile. Instead, he is taking a fight against Essuman, a former British/Commonwealth champion whose biggest recent win was against a retiring Josh Taylor.

Another flaw lies in the ambitious matchmaking for the lightweight bout between Adam Azim and Zaur Abdullaev. While the undefeated Azim is an exciting prospect with high hopes of securing his fifth consecutive knockout, he is being matched against a legitimately tough veteran. Abdullaev is a resilient fighter who recently saw his nine-fight win streak snapped only by a quality boxer in Raymond Muratalla. This fight is an unnecessarily high competitive risk for a prospect like Azim.
