Facing Crawford Is ‘Great For My Legacy’ – Says Spence

Errol Spence Jr. has admitted that his legacy would not have been complete without a fight against Terence Crawford. 

The ‘Truth’ takes on ‘Bud Crawford’ in the biggest fight in boxing since Floyd Mayweather faced Manny Pacquiao.

The winner will become the first ever undisputed champion at welterweight in the four-belt era.

Although Spence has beaten champions to get this three belts, WBA, WBC and IBF, Crawford was the final name missing of his list for the WBO. 

Victories over Kell Brook for the IBF title, a win over Shawn Porter for the WBC belt and then the WBA title from Yordenis Ugas have put Spence at the top of the division. 

And now that the fight has been signed, Spence recognised that it is the biggest fight of his career. 

“If this fight didn’t happen, it probably would’ve been a dent on our legacy. Us just making the fight is already great for our legacy,” Spence stated  

Victory for both fighters would also open up doors in other divisions. Both Crawford and Spence have spoken about moving up from welterweight.

The former is targeting a mega fight with Jermell Charlo at 154 lbs, meanwhile Spence has admitted that fighting Canelo Alvarez is also something he is keen on doing. 

However, since the Mexican recently signed a three-fight deal with the PBC, the chance of that fight happening may be slim.

There is speculation that the three fights could lead to Canelo retiring. And if that were the case, then a fight with David Benavidez is the one that the fans would be hoping for. 

“We’re not thinking about Canelo right now. If the fight comes across the table, I definitely will take that fight. I feel like 165 to 168, that’s more my natural weight and a lot easier for me to make, so I definitely will take that fight,” Spence said 

As the fight is almost a month away, Spence and Crawford know that it is make or break for their legacy moving forward. Bud may be the favorite, but in truth, the fight could go either way.
