Fabio Reis Snaps Cold Spell at ONE Friday Night Fights 78
Fabio Reis needed to find a way to build self-confidence. The Portuguese Muay Thai specialist was in a rough slump. Three straight losses had Reis’ career looking like it was trending in the wrong direction.
Reis was able to change everything up Friday night because of how dedicated he was to working Pakorn PK Saenchai’s body. Reis came out of the corner aggressively to start the fight. Online boxing news shows that Reis wasn’t bothered when Pakorn attempted to counter.
There was a brief moment in the second round where Reis appeared to stumble, but he quickly got back into the action. Pakorn attempted to avoid the power of Reis’ body shots by being more aggressive. That strategy would ultimately be Pakorn’s undoing.
Reis would throw out a strong left hook to the body that planted Pakorn on the canvas with 56 seconds remaining in the second round. Reis evened his record to 3-3 in ONE Championship and is now 23-9 in his career.
Komawut FA Group Wins Split Decision
Komawut FA Group couldn’t feel too comfortable when the judges read the scorecards Friday night. Whenever there is a fight with a lot of action, the scorecards can go over the place. While there are supposed to be guidelines in order to make scoring consistent, it’s impossible to discount the human factor that goes into judging.
While Komawut earned the split-decision win over Siwakorn PK Saenchai, there is no doubt he had to work hard to earn it. The MMA latest updates show that Siwakorn attempted to counter Komawut’s strikes by launching a heavy number of kicks.
No Stepping Back
Khunponnoi Sor Sommai wasn’t going to give Tanachart Por Patcharawat any ground. What made the two flyweight Muay Thai fighters perfect dance partners was that Tanachart felt the same way. He also chose to engage in a high-volume striking affair.
How Khunponnoi managed space was important for his success. Khunponnoi used a lot of creativity to get strikes home against Tanachart. During the third round, Khunponnoi used heavy knees to the body.
In the second round, Khunponnoi fired off intense elbows. Tanachart was game in trying to land counters but had no answers for Khunponnoi’s variety. Khunponnoi won by decision and improved his career record to 120-33.
Tonglampoon Applies Unrelenting Pressure
Tonglampoon FA Group made sure his fight with Topgun Kor Kanluak ended in the second round. Once Tonglampoon sent Topgun to the canvas the first time, he increased the pressure so much that there was no stopping his momentum. Within a 90-second span in the second round, Tonglampoon put an immense amount of pressure on.
Tonglampoon scored his first knockdown with a power punch from in close. Then Tonglampoon sent Topgun back down again with a vicious elbow. When Topgun got back to his feet, Tonglampoon changed tactics. Tonglampoon threw out a jumping head kick that took him off his own feet while he landed flush with Topgun.
Topgun fell back against the corner of the ring, forcing a stoppage to the fight. Tonglampoon has collected four straight wins, and three of those victories have come by knockout.
Yodkitti FiatPathum Collects Knockout Win
Yodkitti FiatPathum proved he wasn’t a fluke during his 122-pound catchweight Muay Thai bout with Got Taipetburi. He picked up a knockout victory during the first round to improve to 2-0 in the promotion. Yodkitti’s challenge now will be to prove he can go on a winning streak.
Yodkitti was able to put Got on his backfoot by utilizing pressure and backing him up against the ropes. When Got attempted to move Yodkitti away with a right hook, he missed and was finished off by a left hook to the body.
Detphupa, Rodbenz Attempt to Steal the Show
Detphupa ChotBangsaen and Rodbenz PK Saenchai may have been buried in the middle of the fight card for their 112-pound catchweight fight. But the performance from both of the lighter weight fighters on the card left a lasting impression on the audience.
But the fight didn’t appear like it was going to be anything special at first. Rodbenz took control by knocking Detphupa down with a head kick 30 seconds into the fight. When Detphupa returned to his feet, he would be sent back down to the floor by a crushing elbow.
But things were drastically different from that point forward. In the third round, Detphupa scored a knockdown of his own on a counter right hand. The judges were unsure of which fighter deserved the win. Two would end up siding with Detphupa despite his suffering the two knockdowns in the first round.
Ortikov Grabs a Fifth Straight Victory
Aslamjon Ortikov is building his star quickly in ONE. Ortikov, 21, has now won five straight fights in the promotion. If he continues on this trajectory, he should earn an opportunity to fight for a Muay Thai title soon.
Yodthongthai Sor Sommai was Ortikov’s latest victim. Yodthongthai is a veteran striker who didn’t seem to have much of a plan for dealing with Otrikov.
Ortikov leaned heavily on landing wild, extending combinations to slowly drain his opponent’s gas tank. Toward the end of the second round, that extended pressure paid off. Ortikov dropped Yodthongthai with a counter left hook to get way ahead in the fight.
Ortikov didn’t let him off the hook, landing a left hook in this round to pick up a knockout win.
Here’s a look at the rest of the fights on the card not mentioned above:
- Muay Thai (140-pound catchweight), Yota Shigemori win by knockout over Shin Dong Hyun, Round 2 2:43
- Muay Thai (Atomweight), Moa Carlsson win by unanimous decision over Tsz Ching Phoebe Lo
