Ex-UFC Champ Jamahal Hill Arrested for Allegedly Injuring Brother

Jamahal Hill, the former UFC light heavyweight champion, was apprehended by authorities on the grounds of an aggravated domestic violence charge.
According to reports, the fighter was involved in some violence against his brother who ended up suffering an ‘aggravated injury.’ It is not exactly clear what led to the arrest given that the Kent County Sheriff’s Department did not disclose any details. Hill is expected to be back in court on January 22nd, 2024. However, the manager representing Hill, Brian Butler, maintained that his fighter was innocent.
Hill’s Arrest
“The recent “click bait” headlines about @JamahalH were based on an alleged dispute between him and his older brother. Jamahal adamantly maintains his innocence and denies the false accusations. We will not be commenting anymore about this until the truth comes out in court,” Butler said
The news is the last thing that Hill needs, given his recent time in the cage. The fighter won the light heavyweight title at UFC 283 when he beat Glover Teixeira. However, the fighter had to vacate the belt after he had torn his Achilles tendon during a basketball game during the International Fight Week that took place in Las Vegas.
Hill’s Injury
“I have unfortunately suffered an injury. I’ve ruptured my Achilles’ [tendon]. It’s just one of those things that happens. [And] it’s a tough injury. It’s one that will require surgery and will require time and rehab and things for me to be out for a while. Also with that, I was given an opportunity. I was given a blessing that came at the misfortune of someone else. Jiri Prochazka was the champion, he suffered an injury as these things happen. He gave up the belt and allowed for others to not hold the division.
“Right now, the biggest thing is focusing on my recovery, focusing on getting back to 100 percent. I need to take some time to focus on my health and make sure that I’m 100 percent and I’m the fighter that everybody knows who I am and who I’ve been since I’ve stepped into this. In order to do that, I need to focus on healing and getting ready and rehabbing,” Hill revealed
Hill On The New Champ
That had the impact of him missing out on UFC 295 as Alex Pereira beat Jiri Prochazka to win the vacant title. But moving forward, the aim is to return back to the cage with a bang after seeing Pereira win.
“I thought it ended a little early. But all in all, I was just thinking, like, neither one of these dudes are on my level. Neither one of them – I don’t think they are (as good as me) in any facet of the game, and I can’t wait to get back in full health and be able to show that.
“I think he did well. I think he came out and he chopped the leg, he got busy on it early. He stayed patient. He showed that you can’t just come out and grab him and take him down and just have that be an easy road to victory. He showed a lot of things. He showed he can do what he did at middleweight, at light heavyweight, essentially, so it’s exciting. He made me really excited to get back,” Hill stated
