Eubank Jr. Says The Benn Fight Is Happening - 'Just Waiting For That Date'

Chris Eubank Jr. says a Conor Benn fight will be made in 2025.

Reports indicated that Eubank Jr. had agreed to a 55% split, but Benn’s camp were holding out for an equal share. The fight was initially pulled after Benn failed VADA tests for Clomiphene. UKAD subsequently suspended him as the investigation continued. The National Anti-Doping Agency recently lifted the suspension as UKAD said they would not appeal it. That means Benn is free to box subject to him finding an opponent. He was linked with the WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios.

That fight would earn him his first world title, which is the right step to take for his career progression.
It is also in his natural weight class. But the Eubank fight offers more money with potentially more legacy on the line, given the history between the two fathers. The fight is even bigger now, given what happened during the failed tests scandal. Ben Shalom recently said that the fight had to be agreed last week.

No announcements were made, suggesting that the deal is potentially off. But Eubank has said otherwise. He has now revealed that the contract is in the final stages as he expects the fight to be made. That would suggest that there is an equal share or Benn has accepted that he is the B-side in the negotiations.

Eubank Jr. Reacts

“We are close. The fight will be made. 2025 is going to be a huge year for boxing, and I’m excited. The contract is in its final stages. I’m just waiting for that date. It looks like it’s going to be early this year, and it looks like it’s going to be in the UK. That was something that was very important to me because in this fight, there’s a lot of British boxing history involved in it.

“So, if we can get it in the UK, that would be amazing. I’m just waiting for that announcement. “Absolutely. That’s a fight that’s not left my mind. There’s very few people in this game and industry that I dislike. Billy Joe Saunders is one of them. I can’t stand this guy. I can’t stand him. So, any opportunity I get to put a beating on this man, I will jump at it in a second’s notice. So that rematch this year if possible. That fight will happen,” Eubank Jr. said

Eubank will likely be the favorite since Benn will be moving up from welterweight to fight at 160 pounds. Benn may also have to fight off the negative perception of his brand. It is unclear why he was cleared. There are still question marks over whether Clomiphene was in his system. He has not provided a reason to the British public as to why he was cleared. Benn’s camp may argue that there is confidentiality. Providing a reason would dispel any doubts that he had taken any substances, or at least intentionally. But that could all be settled once the pair enter the ring.
