Eubank Jr. Recalls Being In A Gang

Chris Eubank Jr. looked back at his time as an enforcer in a gang as he prepares for his upcoming fight.

Eubank Jr. will box on October 12 on the Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, against Kamil Szeremeta. It is a big stage as the card will host the Undisputed Light Heavyweight Championship. It is his first fight in over a year since he stopped Liam Smith. That victory avenged his stoppage loss against Smith, making it one of the biggest wins of his career. Eubank Jr. has signed with BOXXER as he has his first fight under the promotional outfit. He was in talks to face Canelo Alvarez, a fight which he is still targeting in the future.

But talks broke down as Canelo chose to face Edgar Berlanga on Mexican Independence Weekend. Eubank Jr. is still considered one of the biggest names in British boxing due to the accomplishments of his father, Chris Eubank Sr. Eubank Sr. had memorable fights in his career, one of which was against Nigel Benn. Although Eubank Jr. is still a big name, he has not hit the heights many people hoped he would. He has won the IBO Middleweight Title, but the belt has not been widely recognized on the big stage. But his life could have been so much different had he continued in the gangs.

Eubank Reacts

“It’s just what you have to deal with. You are a kid, you don’t know better. That’s one of the reasons why I ended up moving to Las Vegas to get away from that scene, to get away from that lifestyle. I don’t know how it happened, but I was a street kid. I was a road man that was going home to a million pound mansion every night. It doesn’t make sense,” Eubank Jr. said

If Eubank comes out victorious, he would likely target the big bouts next year. Aside from Canelo, he has earmarked a rematch with Billy Joe Saunders. He faced off against Saunders in 2014, losing a split decision. Saunders has not boxed since he lost to Canelo in 2021. But there is speculation that he could make a comeback. There is also the opportunity to fight Conor Benn. Eubank and Ben had agreed to a fight in 2022. However, the fight was called off after Ben failed VADA tests for Clomiphene.

The British boxer is suspended as he faces a battle to prove his innocence. However, once the legal investigation is over, Ben could fight Eubank. It is still a big British fight, and Eubank will have more leverage. Another alternative is to try and secure a bout with Terence Crawford. They have shared the same trainer in Brian McIntyre. Crawford has indicated his desire to fight Canelo at 168. That would require him to move up two weight classes from 154 pounds. A fight with Eubank could prove a nice alternative to ease his way up the weights. Either way, Eubank has plenty of opportunities moving forward.
