Eubank Jr. Apologizes After Frank Warren Threatens Legal Action – ‘I’m Sorry’
Chris Eubank Jr. has retracted his comments against Frank Warren after the latter threatened to sue him.
Eubank Jr. turned a few heads when he commented about the Queensbury Promoter during the kick-off press conference for the Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev fight. During the press conference, Eubank Jr. was asked why he signed with BOXXER and Ben Shalom. Eubank then went through the various other promoters he could have been with, calling them all out by name. He said he left Kalle Sunderland after the promoter locked him into a contract. He then called out Frank Warren, stating that he was a scumbag and had cheated his way through boxing.
He also referenced his prior comments about being sued by Warren, meaning that the Queensbury promoter was not a good choice. Eubank Jr. then bashed Eddie Hearn for his conduct in the Conor Benn fight, accusing the promoter of doing everything in his power to try to make the fight go ahead despite Ben failing VADA tests for Clomiphene.
Eubank Jr. Reacts
“Why Boxxer? Because every other promoter out here is a scumbag. That’s why. You’ve got Frank Warren behind me, he’s been lying and cheating his way through boxing for the last couple decades, sued me for a couple hundred thousand a few years ago, so obviously I was never going to go with him. The guy is a scumbag. Kalle Sauerland [Eubank’s former promoter] had me locked up in a terrible contract for the last few years, squeezing money out of me at every opportunity.
“Scumbag. Eddie Hearn, Frank Smith, they did everything they could to try and make this fight against Conor Benn still go ahead after knowing that he was on steroids. Scumbags. I would say the only promoter that I know for sure isn’t a scumbag is his excellency Turki Alalshikh. This is a man who isn’t trying to take money from fighters. He isn’t trying to use lawyers and accountants to lock fighters up in slave contracts,” Eubank Jr.
Those comments drew a strong reaction from Warren, the Queensbury promoter, who went on air to state that he would be suing Eubank Jr. for his comments. That is the last thing that Eubank Jr. needed, given that he is preparing for his upcoming fight against Kamil Szeremeta.
Eubank Jr. Apologizes
Eubank Jr. is targeting the biggest fights moving forward next year after he was reportedly in talks to face Canelo Alvarez. He has also outlined potential plans to have a rematch with Billy Joe Saunders and revisit the idea of a Conor Benn fight if terms can be agreed upon. Now, the two parties have settled their differences, with Eubank Jr. retracting his comments and Warren accepting the apology.
“Following today’s press conference for the historic Riyadh Season event on October 12th. I would like to retract my inaccurate statements and offer my apologies to Frank Warren, Eddie Hearn and Kalle Sauerland. I now wish to focus purely on boxing and preparing for a huge fight in Riyadh next month,” Eubank Jr.
“I accept Chris’ apology and retraction. I too have said things before and apologise to him if any criticism of him has upset him in the past. I look forward to seeing him compete on this huge Riyadh Season card. We look ahead to some potentially massive bouts in the future,” Frank Warren
