Ennis Promises A KO Against Chukhadzhian
Jaron Ennis has promised a knockout when he defends his IBF Welterweight Title against Karen Chukhadzhian, as they faced off for the first time.
The fight is a rematch of last year’s clash, which Ennis won comfortably via a unanimous decision. However, he was one of the few opponents he failed to knock out, given that h3 has a 32-0 record with 29 KOs. Boots enters the fight with a fifth-round stoppage victory against David Avanesyan. That was Ennis’ first fight under his contract with Matchroom Boxing. He fought in his hometown of Philadelphia for the first time in 2018 and secured the win with style. Ennis was chasing big unification fights at 147, but to no avail.
Talks with the WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios, the WBO Welterweight Champion Brian Norman Jr. and the WBA Welterweight Champion Emanuel Stanios failed. Matchroom Boxing also lost the purse bid for this fight, raising speculation that Eddie Hearn did not want it to go ahead. Hearn was very vocal, stating that the main focus was a unification. However, Boots has now decided to proceed with his IBF mandatory as undisputed is the main goal.
Ennis Reacts
The two fighters had their first face-off as they sized each other up. The following picture shows Ennis looking at Karen straight in the eyes as he tries to psych his opponent out. Boots has promised to deliver a knockout.
“The fans love me and they want to see me put on a show and knock people out. That’s what I do and that’s what I’m going to do again, have my fun and get the KO. It was a cool performance [against David Avanesyan] but I did feel off and rusty. My timing was a little bit off, I was missing shots that I never miss, but having this fast turn around and get right back into the mix of things is going to be even better. I’ll be more on point this time, much sharper, my defense will be on point, and I’m going to have fun. This is the one, don’t miss this one,” Ennis said
Co-Main Event
In chief support, Jesse Rodriguez takes on Pedro Guevara. Rodriguez holds a record of 20-0, with 13 knockout wins. He will defend his WBC Super Flyweight Title against his mandatory Pedro. Rodriguez is a two-weight world champion who aims to continue his impressive career. At just 24 years old, his trainer, Robert Garcia, has confirmed that the aim for him is to become undisputed.
There are even suggestions that he could cross paths with Naoya Inoue later if the two keep winning. This is, by far, Pedro’s biggest test. The Mexican has 42 wins, with 22 coming by way of knockout. He only has four defeats to his name. Pedro is on a two-fight win streak. He defeated Andrew Maloney in his last bout. Rodriguez was ready to put on a show as they also faced off.
“It’s a tough test and a dangerous fight because he has nothing to lose and everything to gain. I have to take this fight just as seriously as my past two fights against Estrada and Edwards. Come November 9, he’s going to come very hungry to take what I have. But right now is my time, and I don’t see him beating me. Just know that my hand will be raised on the night,” Rodriguez said
