Elvin Brito Wants to Position Himself as BKFC Welterweight Title Challenger With Win over Jake Lindsey

August 13, 2024
2 years

Elvin Brito said he is on a punishment tour. It has been over two years since Brito had a Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship belt around his waist. But that hasn’t stopped Brito from taking shots at everyone above him in the rankings.

Brito initially lost his BKFC Welterweight title when he lost to Luis Palomino in a champion-vs-champion match in June 2022. When Brito got back into the ring again nearly a year later, he lost against top contender Carlos Trinidad-Snake.

But online boxing news shows Brito hasn’t given up on the dream of returning to the top. Brito, ranked fourth in the welterweight division, will be able to fight in a title eliminator with second-ranked Jake Lindsey at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.

Lindsey initially made his name in combat sports by fighting in MMA. He compiled a 15-11 career record before moving into bare-knuckle boxing. Lindsey is 4-1 in the BKFC but lost his last fight to Gorjan Salveski.

This will be an interesting battle with Brito. Lindsey has ended four of his wins by stoppage. He won’t be looking to make life easier for Brito. Expect Brito to win close in a competitive fight.

Bets to consider: Brito ML

Coltrane Ready for Middleweight Battle

Doug Coltrane hopes his opportunity to fight David Mundell for the BKFC middleweight title last November wasn’t his only bite at the apple. Coltrane went into the fight in Orlando with a 3-0 record in the BKFC but came away with a disappointing loss.

Coltrane, now ranked second in the middleweight division, was knocked out early in the second round. It was a disappointing loss for Coltrane, who started training in MMA in 2019. MMAfighting latest news shows that Coltrane found his style was more suited for bare-knuckle.

Coltrane wants to get back on track with a win against Zeb Vincent. Vincent spent a long time in the amateur MMA circuit before trying his hand at professional combat sports. Vincent lost his first fight in the BKFC before bouncing back with a pair of knockouts. With a new promotion like BKFC, many fighters take a fight or two before they are fully settled in with the promotion.

It’s hard to imagine Vincent being able to keep up with Coltrane, who still has title aspirations. Back Coltrane to avoid Vincent’s knockout power and to send his opponent down to the canvas for good.

Bets to consider: Vincent by KO

Making a Late-Career Change

Jason High nearly became a solid veteran in the UFC. However, his temper got the best of him. He shoved a referee following a fight with Rafael dos Anjos in June 2014 and was released from the promotion.

After spending several years in the PFL and the World Series of Fighting, High decided to make his BKFC debut in September 2021 at age 39. He won by knockout against Rocky Long. But High hasn’t gotten back into the squared circle since.

The latest boxing news online shows that High will get an opportunity to win another victory when he fights James Dennis. Dennis prefers to fight with a more deliberate approach. He prefers to seek knockouts and will throw less volume as a result.

High should be ready for what he can offer.

Bets to consider: High ML, Under 2.5 rounds

Debuting Fighters Paired Together

Ira Johnson and Tyler Jones are both regional fighters who will look to make their first impression on the BKFC crowd. Johnson only started his combat sports career when he picked up boxing during the pandemic. The Grandview, Mo., resident will want to make a good impression during his debut.

Jones is fighting out of Arkansas and has had several professional MMA fights before heading to bare-knuckle. Jones was 7-11 in MMA and has succeeded in boxing. He won a split decision in a traditional gloved boxing match in May.

Jones also won a bare-knuckle fight in another organization last month. Back Jones’ experience to get him a victory here.

Bets to consider: Jones ML

Furnier Inching Close to Needing a New Job

Michael Furnier has shown off his tremendous power throughout his time in BKFC. While Furnier lost his debut fight with Zach Calmus, Furnier’s tremendous power knocked out Calmus’ tooth. But separating people from their teeth doesn’t mean you get your hand raised as a winner.

Furnier has gone 0-2 during his time in BKFC so far. He’s hoping to give JW Kiser a rude welcome to the promotion in a heavyweight bout. Kiser didn’t start with ambitions of doing bare-knuckle boxing.

The Overland Park, Kansas, puncher will likely adapt quickly. He was 6-4 as a professional MMA fighter. Kiser always had strong boxing and may be able to lean on that here.

Bets to consider: Kiser ML, Under 1.5 rounds

Warbritton May Not Stay Off Radar For Long

Blaine Warbritton has a low profile in combat sports. He hadn’t fought much before joining the BKFC. During Warbritton’s only bare-knuckle fight in another organization, he collected a first-round knockout to catch the attention of the BKFC.

Warbritton could benefit from some fortunate matchmaking to start his career. He will make his BKFC debut against Justyn Martinez. Martinez is 0-3 in his career and hasn’t had a good time in the BKFC.

Martinez has had no contests and two losses since joining the BKFC. There will be real pressure for Martinez to put his career on a positive trajectory, but that won’t happen in this matchup.

Bets to consider: Warbritton by KO, Under 2.5 rounds

Here’s a look at the rest of the fights not mentioned above:

  • Lightweight, Eduardo Peralta vs. Deron Carlis
  • Women’s flyweight, Karla Alvarez vs. Charlene Gellner
  • Heavyweight, John Orr vs. Anthony Garrett
  • Bantamweight, Jacob Akin vs. Matt Guymon
  • Bantamweight, Jesse Pringle vs. Devon Schwan
