Eddie Hearn Foresees Three Key Bouts for Devin Haney in 2024
Eddie Hearn has named three significant fights that could happen for Devin Haney in 2024.
The Dream’s confidence is riding high following his dominant win over Regis Prograis to become the new WBC junior welterweight champion. Haney dismantled Prograis by winning every round to secure a unanimous decision win: 120-107, 120-107 and 120-107.
Haney showed he could stand up to a big hitter since Prograis has 24 KOs in his 29 wins. At the same time, Haney dropped Regis in the third round and staggered him with another big right hand in the sixth. The win has set up a variety of options at 140 and 147. Hearn expects the following three names to be potential opponents in 2024: Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia, and Gervonta Davis.
Hearn On Haney
“You could see his year look like, Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez, Tank Davis. We got the next fight [with Haney signed with Matchroom Boxing]. I think now that he’s a draw, I expect him to end his career with us. Hopefully, we can work together for a long time.
“Both guys [Haney & Ryan] are with DAZN. Ryan should be wanting that fight and should be wanting to challenge for belts at 140. I think Ryan and Golden Boy might look at Devin and say, ‘Okay, not as big a puncher as Tank maybe. I know he’s got great movement, but I think we can win that fight.I think that’s the fight to make,” Hearn revealed
Looking At The Options
The Takeover is in talks with Subriel Matias for a fight in June next year. Chris Mannix has revealed that there are “substantive conversations between [Top Rank] and Matias” for a fight on “NYC Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend.” Therefore, would Lopez take a fight in between that?
Meanwhile, Ryan Garcia did call out Haney following the win. The two boxers have some history, as they have faced each other six times in the amateurs. Their record is 3-3, setting up the narrative to decide who is the best. Garcia indicated his intention to make the fight in 2024.
“I can’t wait to get it active with him. Haney is Good no doubt but I know him all to[o] well and I will beat him. Good stuff tonight congrats but this year we are going to run it!!!” One thing is certain in my eyes is that Haney and I will fight in 2024. You can hold me to it unless it’s not in God’s will,” Garcia said
As for Tank Davis, the fight is the least unlikely. Davis currently campaigns at 135, and his camp is reluctant to move up. His trainer, Calvin Ford, responded to a Haney fight by suggesting that both fighters had different plans. And with Haney refusing to move back down to 135, the onus is on Tank’s side to push for the fight. After all, Bill Haney indicated his son’s desire to fight Davis. In response, this is what Haney to say.
“Y’all going up to 147. Talking about who you’re going to fight at 147. Forget about 140, forget about 135, and forget about Tank. They said it in the ring, ‘We’re going up to 147,” Ford said
