“Fights that get negotiated online rarely happen. I think Teofimo is great, but the chances of Devin Haney and Teofimo agreeing to a deal are very slim,” Hearn
This is understandable given that the interactions between Lopez and Haney showed that there would have to be a few hurdles that needed to be overcome.
The question of who the A-side would be could prove problematic. Haney is the undisputed lightweight champion, while Lopez is a two-division and two-time lineal champion.
And those dynamics have played out with Lopez dismissing that he wanted $20 million to fight Haney. As a result, Hearn is confident that Haney fights Regis Prograis next for the WBC title at 140.
“I believe Regis Prograis is a fight that can be made. I know Devin wants that fight. I don’t think we’re too far away from a deal for him. We’ve now sent Regis Prograis an offer, and we’re discussing that at the moment, and we’ll see what happens.”
“I think it’s a tremendous fight and a good fight for both. I think it’s a fight that can happen for him [Haney] to try and become a champion at 140, and I believe Regis Prograis can win that fight,” Hearn
Ultimately, a Lopez vs. Haney fight is one of the biggest bouts out there. However, getting the two sides to agree will be tough.
And with both sides having a claim for being the A-side, something will have to be giv before the two boxers share the ring. So for now, the fight may be some time away.
