Eddie Hearn Believes Fury Will Fight Ngannou

Eddie Hearn has given his take on what he believes to be the ‘game changer’ fight that Tyson Fury will be involved in.

Frank Warren, of Queensbury Promotions, teased the identity of the ‘Gypsy King’s’ next opponent by referencing how it would change the sport.

This led to speculation that the boxer could be fighting an MMA star after having been linked with Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones. And according to the Matchroom Boxing promoter, Ngannou could be name.

“Yes, I believe so, this is what I’ve heard. It will be an exhibition apparently, no knockdowns or anything. I don’t know, I’m only telling you what I’ve heard.

“Who knows what’s what, but I think that is apparently what is gonna be the next fight. Disappointing, but it is what it is,” Hearn said

This is not likely to go down well with the boxing community, as it pushes back the chance of an undisputed heavyweight fight with Oleksandr Usyk.

The last time that the division had such a champion was when Lennox Lewis beat Evander Holyfield in their rematch via a unanimous decision.

And as Saudi Arabia have confirmed that any potential Fury-Usyk fight will occur in 2024, fighting Ngannou is not the ideal preparation for such a fight, especially since the Ukrainian will fight a professional boxer in the form of Daniel Dubois on August 26th, 2023.

That is likely to push back the fight even further, as Hearn expressed his disappointment.

“It’s a big event, but I wanted to see him fight Oleksandr Usyk. It’d be nice to get an undisputed champion, but Tyson’s in charge of his own career and I’m sure he’s gonna make a load of money, good luck to him,” Hearn

But since neither Fury nor Warren have made an announcement about the opponent, there could still be a few tricks up their sleeve.

And if the announcement were to be accompanied by a fight date involving Usyk, then the fans may be more forgiving. Time will tell how this all plays out.
