Dubois Demolishes Joshua To Stop Him In The Fifth - 'What A Performance'

Daniel Dubois sent Joshua to the canvas four times to secure a massive victory and retain his IBF Heavyweight Title.

Heading into the fight, there was much expectation on the two power hitters. There was a record 96,000 Wembley crowd, with the victor knowing they would be in line to face Tyson Fury or Oleksander Usyk for the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship. The fight did not disappoint, with both men providing the crowd with an electric event.

Dubois started the fight at a quick pace. He was the aggressor and caught Joshua with the right hand early, warning the crowd what to expect if AJ lowered his guard. Joshua was flicking out his jab early on as he attempted to negate Dubois’ line of vision. However, Dubois connected with a huge right hand to send Joshua to the canvas in the first round. While AJ got off from the canvas to end the round, it was a massive turn of events.

Joshua was now on unsteady legs in the second round. Dubois responded by using his jab and doubling up on it. Joshua reminded Dubois what to expect as he connected with his right hand. AJ landed three jabs in the third as the crowd felt he was growing into the fight. But once again, Dubois caught Joshua. He had him on the ropes and dropped him near the end of the bell with a left hook.

Joshua was flat on his feet but got up to end around. Joshua hit the canvas in the fourth with a left hook. He was dropped again but it was declared a no-knockdown. AJ had his best round in the fifth, just before the stoppage. He landed two right hands on Dubois. But as he had lowered his hands, Dubois responded with the right hand of his own to send Joshua to the floor. AJ could not beat the count, as Dubois was now the next PPV star.

Post-Fight

“Thank you very much, you know. It’s been a long journey. I’m grateful to be in this position. I’m a gladiator, you know? I’m just a warrior to the bitter end. I’m just ready to go. I want to go to the top level of this game and reach my potential. God bless you all. Just behind the scenes, the work with my dad, all my family and my strong team. They’ve helped me get through this. I’ve just been on a roller-coaster ride and this is my time. It’s my redemption story. I’m not going to stop until I reach my potential,” Dubois

“Credit to him and his team. We rolled the dice at success and we came up short. You know I’m ready to kick up in the ring, but I’m going to keep my cool and keep very professional and give the respect to my opponent. Before I came here, I’m always saying to myself I’m a fighter for life. We rolled the dice at success and we came up short, [but] we’ll keep rolling the dice. I had a sharp opponent, a fast opponent. And secondly a lot of mistakes on my end. But that’s the game….it is what it is,” Joshua
