Donald Trump Hails Conor McGregor
US President Donald Trump had nothing but praise for Conor McGregor.
McGregor has become a divisive figure following his recent controversy. Conor was found liable after Nikita Hand filed a civil sexual lawsuit, as he was ordered to pay damages and her legal fees. McGregor maintained that he was innocent, saying he would appeal the decision. The ruling earned McGregor a lot of backlash in Ireland. The Hitman video game franchise cut ties with him, while Proper No 12. Irish Whiskey removed him from their marketing.
Irish airports in Cork and Dublin also said they would not stock his drinks, while Irish politician Ruth Coppinger even suggested that the public could boycott McGregor. The Notorious has been an ardent supporter of Trump. He attended Trump’s inauguration as he secured his second term as US President.
Trump recently spoke with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin. The topic of discussion centred around trade agreements and tariffs. As the discussion continued, McGregor’s name was brought up. Trump praised McGregor as he talked up the history of Irish fighters.

“I do happen to like your fighter, he’s got the best tattoos I’ve ever seen. Conor’s great, right? Talking about Conor ,but you have a lot of great Irish fighters actually. Great fighters. I don’t know what that is but Ireland’s always had a lot of really good fighters. You know why? Because they’re tough people. They’re smart people and they’re passionate people,” Trump stated
McGregor has not always seen eye-to-eye with Trump. The latter has praised Khabib Nurmagomedov previously, calling him his favorite fighter ever. Khabib and McGregor had a bitter rivalry that came to a head in their UFC 229 clash. During the build-up, McGregor threw a chair at Khabib’s team bus. He also made some comments at their presser, which were deemed offensive to Khabib’s Islamic faith. Khabib got his own back by submitting him in the fourth round, after which a brawl broke out. However, Trump is very cordial with Khabib, as he had nothing but positive words to say about the fighter.

“I think Khabib [is my favorite fighter]. I mean, how good is he? Khabib was 29 [or] 28 and 0, and then his father died and he stopped. don’t think he ever lost a round. He fought many times, he never lost a round. I got to meet him at a fight, two fights ago… I met Khabib, though… He came to me and said, ‘You’re the man that can stop the war. He knows they’re his people on both sides.
“There’s so many people dying in that war.” “We weren’t talking about fighting, we were talking about a different kind of fighting. A much worse kind of fighting. He was very concerned about that whole thing, that war. He said, ‘You can get it stopped.’ And I can get it stopped. If I win the election, the first thing I’m going to do is get Putin and get Zelenskyy, I know them both well, and get them to make a deal because it’s crazy,” Trump said
