Did Conor McGregor Fire Mike Perry From BKFC?
Conor McGregor has increased speculation that he has fired Mike Perry from BKFC.
McGregor first teased the idea after stating Perry was fired following his loss to Jake Paul. McGregor is a part-owner of the BKFC, as he put his support behind Perry who is considered the biggest fighter in the franchise. Since his UFC departure in 2021, Perry has won five BKFC fights in a row. He talked up his chances against Paul. However, he failed to deliver a competitive fight. Perry was sent to the canvas three times as he was stopped in round six. It was not a great advert for BKFC, resulting in McGregor’s response.
“Hey Mike, you’re released and you can go and compete in your smelly dirty boxing championship thing, the smell of it, good luck. You’re fired. @BareKnuckleFC. Dirty boxing championship With MMA sparring gloves? Lol. Enjoy that, lad, smell ya later,” McGregor said
Perry did not take those comments well. He has since then launched his Dirty Boxing Championship. He announced the venture which includes ex-Karate Combat Executive Adam Kovacs and Josh McLean from Kanpai Media. The promotion will feature fights under a mixture of rules, allowing for various forms of striking. Fighters will be allowed to use five-ounce gloves.
McGregor vs. Perry
However, there is a limit on how much they can ground and pound. This raised speculation that Perry may seek his future elsewhere. And yet, ‘the King of Violence’ brushed off McGregor’s comments. He made it clear that there is massive demand to see him fight.
“I think he just does that. He tweets and he gets people to attach to something. He knows that we had that moment in history and he knows people were talking about it. And he’s like, ‘Let me say something about it and talk…about it and be my normal whitty self’. And he said something that got people to tune into it and he’s like, ‘Oh now Mike is released from bare-knuckle’, but let’s be honest everybody wants to see me fight bare-knuckle again,” Perry stated
Will Perry Fight?
However, Perry has gone quiet since the Paul loss. There is no news about his next fight. Meanwhile, McGregor has stated that he wants to fight in BKFC moving forward, as his influence will only grow. It remains to be seen how much influence McGregor actually has. He could simply be using Perry’s name to keep himself relevant.
The Irishman has not fought since his 2021 loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, where he broke his leg. He was scheduled to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29. However, McGregor was ruled out after breaking his toe. There is now a wait to see if he will fight this year. The longer he remains inactive, the more his brand will suffer. But when it came to Perry, McGregor’s following comments hinted that he was no longer in BKFC’s plans.
Fan: Bro did you really fire mike perry?
