Devin Haney Slams Sylvester Stallone's Boxing Comments - 'Rocky Movies Aren't Real'

Devin Haney has hit out at Sylvester Stallone’s comments about boxing.

Stallone is best known for being a star in the Rocky films. The actor gave his view on boxing as he held a pair of gloves which he wore in the films. The video shows Stallone stating that the gloves were the same as what professional boxers used in the 1970s. This created the perception that Stallone was comparing himself to professional boxers. Haney did not take those comments well. He is a two-weight world champion, having won belts at 135 and 140 pounds. He was also the youngest undisputed champion in the four-belt era when he cleaned up all the belts at lightweight. Haney has now questioned Stallone’s following comments.

Stallone And Haney

“They don’t even allow these today because they’re so dangerous. But that’s what they used when I did the film. They’re barely six ounces, they’re Reyes and they’re literally lethal. I still have them because it’s a time when people were tougher. I’m sorry, they were. Life is just getting a little easier and easier and easier. … I cherish hard work, even though I hate it,” Stallone

“Dude don’t know a left hook from a fish hook, and got the nerve to speak on times being easier in boxing like he wasn’t just an actor… Buddy them Rocky movies wasn’t real,” Haney wrote

Haney has plenty of critics too. His boxing career has taken a lot of damage following his no-contest against Ryan Garcia. Haney was dropped three times as he suffered a majority decision defeat. The loss was only overturned because Ryan tested positive for Ostarine. Garcia received a year ban, while Haney sued Ryan for fraud, battery and unjust enrichment.

Haney’s Plans

That lawsuit earned Haney a lot of pushback as he was seen as not moving on. He is set for his first fight since then and will box Jose Ramirez in May. He will fight on the Garcia vs. Rolando Romero card. That will be hard for Haney to take since Ryan failed a test, yet he is still the main attraction. Garcia’s commercial following and popularity have increased since the Haney fight. But Devin has his own plans for a big 2025.

“I want to keep showing the world how great I am and turning non-believers into believers. They want to see if I’m the same. After I was cheated, there’s question marks. They want to see if I’m the same Devin or a better Devin. He [Ryan] has the question marks too. The world wants to see if he’s the same when he’s off PEDs.

“Just from my experience, being a victim of being cheated, knowing how important is is being in that ring and being clean to be on an even playing field. I want to be an advocate for clean athletes in general, especially in boxing. We’re in there taking punishment. What a better time [to take a stand] when you see a guy [Ryan Garcia] cheat and get suspended. It’s the biggest time in boxing. The whole world seen it. I think what better time than now,” Haney said
