Devin Haney Accuses Tank Davis Of Avoiding A Fight – ‘They Say Everything, But Let’s Fight’
Devin Haney has accused Gervonta Davis of ducking him following his win over Regis Prograis.
Haney put on a masterful performance as he won every round to become the new WBC junior welterweight champion. Following the fight, there were question marks over where Haney goes next. There are options at 140 against Teofimo Lopez, Subriel Matias and Rolando Romero for a unification fight.
Outside of that, Ryan Garcia would be the most lucrative fight. But when it came to Gervonta Davis, Haney’s camp ruled out a move back down to 135 pounds. That would require Davis to move up to 140 in order to get the fight. However, Haney has accused the fighter of doing everything to avoid the fight.
Haney On Davis
“Tank don’t want to fight. If he really wanted to fight, he would be trying to build up the fight instead of trying to knock it down, or say I’m only selling because of this or that. If he really wanted to fight me, he would be saying it’s a big fight and the best fight for boxing. He only talks down on the fight. But like I’ve said many times, they say everything, but let’s fight,” Haney said
Bill Haney also echoed those words. The father and trainer’s response came after Davis had mocked the fact that Haney sold out his hometown. The ‘Dream’ returned to the Bay Area to have his first fight in the area since 2015 at the Chase Center.
The 16,000-capacity stadium sold out, which required further areas in the arena to be opened. But rather than praising that, Davis said it should not come as a surprise since the tickets were ‘$57’ dollars. That did not sit well with Bill Haney as he questioned the need to put his son down for Davis to glory his achievements.
Bill Haney Reacts
“Nobody has out-did Devin, in terms of Tank’s dance partners. You don’t have to down the other fighter to validate what you are and what you bring to the table. Tank and his team have consistently lied to the people. … So a message to all the fans: Stop letting Tank and his team piss on your head and tell you it’s rain with these insignificant fights and saying it’s ‘for the culture.’ Devin represents the culture and represents boxing and what boxing should be and what boxing is,” Bill Haney stated
Davis has yet to respond to those claims as the fighter is currently back in the gym preparing for his next fight. Following his recent release from prison for violating the terms of his house arrest, the attention has turned towards the boxer’s next move. The main two big names, at 135 pounds, are Vasiliy Lomachenko and Shakur Stevenson. The failure to fight those boxers may alienate fans further, given Haney’s focus on fighting the big names. And there is no getting away from that.
