Derek Chisora Drops Wallin Twice In Epic UK Farewell Win!

Derek Chisora dropped Otto Wallin twice on his way to a unanimous decision win in his final UK fight.

Chisora bid farewell to the UK in his 49th fight, with an impressive performance to take his record to 36-13-0. Chisora started out of the gates with a high tempo. He targeted the body and upstairs with his overhand right to prevent Wallin from using his jab. It was a successful move for the first couple of rounds, as Wallin was not letting his hands go. A solid right hand buzzed Wallin when he was backed up in round three. However, the fight slowly changed momentum in round five.

Chisora suffered a cut above his right eye. It continued to bleed as the swelling increased. There was a momentary pause in round six, with the ringside doctor inspecting the cut. Chisora was allowed to continue, as Wallin had a chance. Wallin needed to change things desperately. But he did not have the power to hurt Chisora, whose only main issue was the cut and whether he would gas out. Round nine proved pivotal. Chisora landed an overhand right, dropping Wallin backwards.

While he got up, the 10-8 round was a turning point. Chisora went for the stoppage, but the bell came to Wallinā€™s aid. Heading into the championship rounds, Chisora simply needed to avoid getting stopped. In fact, he almost ended the fight. With a second left to go, he dropped Wallin with another lopping right. Wallin made it to the final bell, but this was the final nail in the coffin. The scorecards were as follows: 114-112, 115-114, 115-113. This is Chisoraā€™s final UK fight, but he has plans on facing either Daniel Dubois, Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua in his final bout.

Post-Fight

“Otto Wallin was a good fighter, I thought he was going to gas out but he proved me wrong. When I arrived I was crying like a baby because I love the sport so much. It was an emotional day. It was a firefight, it was very hard. When I got the cut something happened, I wanted to carry on and both my ears popped. I think Iā€™ll have a great legacy and be in the Hall Of Fame when Iā€™m dead, not now,” Chisora said

“When I arrived, I said to myself I won’t cry but I started crying like a baby [before the fight]. I was in tears because I love the sport and love the fans. I love everything about it, the ups and downs. It was a very emotional day for me today. It was very hard. When I got the cut, then something happened in the third round which I didn’t tell my trainers, my ears popped, and I said I’m going to carry on,ā€ Chisora added

“Whatever he wants, we will make it happen. We will sit down and make it happen. He’s now won an eliminator for the IBF title, and that’s Daniel Dubois’, so he has that in the bank. “Whatever he wants to do, we will do. Tonight, what a performance. I can’t tell you how proud I am of how he fought in there, Otto as well, because it takes two to make a fight,” Warren said
