De La Hoya’s Drinking Controversy, Jakes Shields’ Comments And Misfits Mayhem

Oscar De La Hoya recalled his training camp controversy for the Manny Pacquiao fight that was disrupted by his drinking.

The Mexican suffered an eight-round TKO defeat in a one-sided bout where De La Hoya failed to win a single round.

This was despite the fact that Pacquiao jumped up two-weight divisions in order to make the fight happen.

Having said that, though, De La Hoya did come down to 145 pounds which clearly had an impact on his performance.

But looking back, De La Hoya’s preparations were not the best. This was not surprising since the former world champion ended up retiring after the Manny defeat.

And he opened up about the dynamics in his documentary, ‘The Golden Boy.’

“It starts in training camp. I’m training for Manny, and keep in mind [it’s] three months before the fight, OK? I was getting beat up by my sparring partners. At one point, during training camp – maybe midway – I decided it’s over for me.

“I can’t take this. I’m getting beat up so much. My body doesn’t feel right. I start drinking during camp. I start drinking and drinking and not caring anymore. My whole career, I’m always focused. Always determined, 100 percent. But this time I just felt [like it was] over,” De La Hoya

The Golden Boy promoter’s alcohol and drug addictions have been well-documented.

He previously expanded on how he had been battling alcohol problems since he was eight-years-old. Although the star went to rehab, it is a battle that has been a long-life struggle.

“It’s the biggest fight of my life. I can put Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Vargas-I can put all of my opponents in one ring and battle all of them but this monster is going to be toughest fight of my life,” De Lay Hoya

However, De La Hoya continues to remain one of the biggest promoters in US boxing. And there is no getting away from that regardless of the controversies he has been involved in.

Jake Shields’ Controversy

Former MMA world champion Jake Shields has responded to the news that the NYPD have been ordered to pay $13.7 million to the George Floyd protesters.

According to reports, the lawsuit alleged that the police had infringed the rights of over 1,000 people who came out to protest against the killing of Floyd. One of the protestors in question was Sabrina Zurkuhlen.

It is alleged that when protesters came across the police line, Zurkuhlen walked back as she recorded.

That is when an officer reportedly struck her with a baton and tackled her. Thereafter, Zurkuhlen was allegedly kicked and handcuffed before being taken in by the authorities.

As a result, a payout was made in a class-action lawsuit. However, the decision raised many talking points as Shields responded.

Further Reaction

“N.Y.P.D.’s suppression of dissent has continued through numerous mayoral administrations,” legal team on behalf of the victims

“The City and N.Y.P.D. remain committed to ensuring the public is safe and people’s right to peaceful expression is protected. The N.Y.P.D. has improved numerous practices to address the challenges it faced at protests during the pandemic,” the law department added

Alex Stein’s Controversy

Alex Stein’s career as an influencer/boxer has taken a major turn for the worse after he was removed from the upcoming weekend’s Misfits Boxing undercard following his antics at a pre-fight presser.

The American Youtuber was set to face fellow Muslim Youtuber MoDeen. However, Stein caused major controversy when he threw hotdogs at MoDeen. This was followed up by the following words.

“I brought you a little gift because I know you love hotdogs,” Stein

And given that pork is prohibited within the religion of Islam, the action was deemed inflammatory.

Although Stein later claimed that the sausages were in fact Turkey, MoDeen lost his cool. The latter attempted to attack Stein as security had to restrain him.

But as this happened, Stein continued to taunt his opponent.

“You love pork, right?’ and ‘I think those are halal. Just have a hotdog, welcome to America, that’s what we eat here.”

Once the dust had settled down somewhat, Misfits, Stein and MoDeen had a few choice words to say.

“Following today’s actions at the Happy Punch press conference, Alex Stein has been removed from the card,” DAZN

“I feel heartbroken because my fight is getting cancelled because of someone else’s actions.

“And I’m not getting the chance to smash this guy’s face in. We found out it was not pork, it was some chicken or whatever, so that’s calm.

“As long as it wasn’t, then that’s not that deep. They told me the fight’s cancelled. I wanna smash his brain, but they’re telling me it’s cancelled. That’s not fair,” MoDeen
