De La Hoya Teases Ryan Garcia’s Next Fight – ‘Looking To Make A Huge Fight’
Oscar De La Hoya has talked up Ryan Garcia’s next fight in what has been dubbed as a big fight.
Garcia’s last fight was against Gervonta Davis, as he suffered a loss at 135 via a seventh-round stoppage.
In the aftermath of that process, Garcia decided to move up to 140 after suggestions that the 10-pound rehydration at 135 may have weakened him.
And as part of that process, Garcia hired his new trainer in the form of Derrick James. There had been speculation that Garcia could have fought Rolando Romero for the latter’s 140 pound WBA belt.
However, given that Rolly has been ordered to fight Ohara Davies, that fight has been put off the table. And yet, De La Hoya did tease something big.

“Ryan Garcia, we have a date for him in November. We’ve been presenting different opponents to him, you know, they’ve been turning them down. But we’ll hopefully nail something down very soon, but his date is November and we’re looking to make a huge fight with him on that date and take it from there.
“I know it’s complicated because you have Rolly who’s on medical leave, so the world title maybe becomes vacant. There’s a lot of moving parts, but the truth of the matter is Ryan Garcia is coming back in November,” De La Hoya
This naturally begs the question: who could it be? Well, outside of Romero, there could be mega fights involving Devin Haney or Teofimo Lopez.
The former has not signed his side of the fight when it comes to Regis Prograis. Meanwhile, Lopez is keen on targeting fights that generate huge paydays which Garcia does bring.
But in any event, before that can happen, relations between Garcia and De La Hoya must improve.
The pair are in a legal battle after a contractual dispute, so the sooner that gets resolved, the better it is for both sides moving forward. And there is no getting away from that.
