De La Hoya Slams Dana White For Slapping His Wife - 'He Is A Douche'

Oscar De La Hoya has hit out at Dana White as the two continue to but heads.

They have not been on the best of terms ever since Oscar expressed his disapproval of Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor. The Golden Boy promoter felt it was bad for boxing. White did not take that well after De La Hoya suggested that Canelo Alvarez box McGregor instead. There are also suggestions that De La Hoya wanted to enter MMA, which was seen as direct competition with White.

The CEO of the UFC has referred to De La Hoya’s cocaine addiction in the past, as the pair no longer see eye-to-eye. Now, Oscar has had his say. He called out White’s own personal issues, one of which was when he slapped his wife publicly on New Year’s Eve. The video went viral, forcing White to apologize. Oscar also brought up White’s mother, who reportedly wrote a book indicating her displeasure towards her son.

De La Hoya On White

“Yeah, we were cool. When I first thought about getting into MMA, I strongly felt that he just wanted to bury me, not have competition. He started talking [rubbish] about me. What does he talk about? The coke and the pantyhose? So what? 15 years ago, so what? And I don’t have friends.

“It’s absurd because I don’t even think about it. We’re in different sports, he does his thing, I do my thing. Just because I wanted to start a little competition, he gets all ‘let me scream louder.’ When a guy slaps his wife in public, you know when his mom writes a book about him saying that he is a douche, his own mom? That’s all I have to say. I don’t have to say anything more,” De La Hoya said

Elsewhere, De La Hoya called on Shakur Stevenson to believe in himself after the promoter turned down the chance to sign him. Shakur is a free agent after rejecting a five-fight deal with Top Rank. Oscar expressed an interest in signing him, asking if the deal made sense. There is a perception that Shakur is a boring fighter. His last two bouts have not gone down well with fans.

Shakur is the WBC Lightweight Champion, a belt he acquired after beating Edwin De Los Santos to become a three-weight world champion. He defended it successfully against Artem Harutyunyan in his last bout. However, based on his defensive style, those two fights earned him much criticism.

Shakur is currently being linked with a fight against William Zepeda. The WBC enforced Zepeda’s mandatory position. There are now reports that the Saudis want to make that fight on the Terence Crawford vs Vergil Ortiz Jr. card. While that fight may go ahead, De La Hoya has told Stevenson to deliver. Facing Zepeda offers him the chance to do that.

“He needs the confidence to fight. He has to believe in himself to put on a good show and sell seats. That’s the problem he’s having. He’s not selling seats. He’s a great fighter. [And] he’s demanding all this money, and fights aren’t being made,” De La Hoya stated
