De La Hoya Rips Canelo, Compares Him To Kim Kardashian – ‘No Personality, Yet Makes Tons Of Money

Oscar De La Hoya ripped Canelo Alvarez and the state of boxing during his latest segment of ‘Clap Back Thursday.’
De La Hoya addressed a series of topics featuring Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson and continued his feud with Canelo Alvarez. The first topic on his agenda was the Paul vs. Tyson fight. 108 million viewers tuned in worldwide. It also set a live gate record of $18,117,072, which was the biggest for a boxing event outside of Las Vegas. The co-main event, featuring Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, produced approximately 50 million viewers. It was the most-viewed female boxing event in history. While he praised Taylor vs. Serrano, the same could not said for Paul vs. Tyson.
De La Hoya questioned the authenticity of the fight, stating that it was scripted. While there is nothing to indicate that this happened, it was clear from the outset that Tyson was no longer the same fighter. Fans were disappointed when it transpired that Tyson was wearing a compression sleeve to deal with a knee injury, suggesting that he was not 100% coming into the fight.
Paul Vs. Tyson
“I do believe it was scripted, and I believe that Tyson was certainly held back. Look, I’m a fighter, and I can see it,” De La Hoya
The original fight date of July 20 was also called off after Tyson suffered from an inflamed ulcer, raising questions over why the fight went ahead in the first place. De La Hoya then turned his attention towards Canelo Alvarez. He hit out at the state of boxing, calling out fighters for not wanting to face the best. He rejected the narrative that it is all down to promoters. This has some credence following the introduction of Saudi Arabia into boxing. That has enabled the biggest fights to get made. Fans have seen Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk, with the rematch set for December 21.
De La Hoya On Canelo
Fans also saw Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol. A rematch could also take place at some point next year. Canelo has come under fire for not facing David Benavidez. The Mexican monster was the WBC Interim Super Middleweight Champion for over two years. Canelo reportedly demanded $200 million to make that fight. Those funds were never put up as Benavidez moved up to 175. Canelo then faced off against Edgar Berlanga in his last fight. It suggested that Canelo was ducking the best. De La Hoya launched a scathing attack, comparing Canelo to Kim Kardashian.
“We were warriors. We fought everyone. [And] we created sexy, mega fights that everyone looked forward to watching. We were like the 90s supermodels with the beautiful legs and tight athletic bodies, we were like Kate Moss. In the 2000s, boxing had Mayweather and it became boring and defensive for a decade, just like Paris Hilton in the early 2000s.
“And most recently we have Canelo, who is the most boring but most popular boxer today, just like Kim Kardashian, who everyone wants to be like. She has no personality, yet makes tons of money. So essentially, Canelo is the king of the fattest, sloppiest, nastiest BBL era. Everything is cyclical in life and fashion, so here’s to hoping we go back to the warriors of the 90s,” De La Hoya
