Oscar De La Hoya has drawn a line in the sand for a 154-pound clash between Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Jaron Ennis.

The Golden Boy Promotions CEO issued a final offer to Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn: a 60-40 purse split in favor of Ortiz, with an additional 5% bonus going to the winner. De La Hoya made it clear he has no intention of budging.

Ortiz defeated Erickson Lubin in November 2025, which capped a year that included wins over Israil Madrimov and Serhii Bohachuk. If the Ennis deal collapses, De La Hoya is ready to pivot. He has already teased a massive Texas homecoming against Errol Spence Jr. at AT&T Stadium or a fight with WBC champion Sebastian Fundora.

Despite being a former unified champ at 147, Ennis’ 154-pound resume is thin, consisting of a single first-round win over Uisma Lima in October. The future of this fight is now in Eddie Hearn’s hands. If he refuses the split, one of the best stylistic matchups in years will likely be archived.

De La Hoya Reacts

“Vergil can fight two or three different guys in mega fights – he’s got options. Imagine him with Errol Spence at Dallas Cowboys Stadium, or Sebastian Fundora in a mega fight in Vegas. Boots’ is part of the plan but it doesn’t have to be next. But Eddie, since you’re so desperate to make this fight, then let’s do this: 60-40 [purse split] for Vergil and 5% to the winner, because I’m generous. And I’m not moving off those numbers,” De La Hoya said

Nevertheless, Hearn has thrown another spanner in the works. Eddie confirmed a deal had been done, with Ennis signing on the dotted line. And yet, it seems that Vergil did not commit to it.

“We all agreed to the deal. Fifty–fifty and five percent to the winner. Jaron signed. Vergil didn’t,” Hearn stated
