Davis Will Fight This Year – Says Stephen Espinoza

Gervonta Davis is keen on making a return to boxing this year.

That is according to Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza. Davis was recently released from jail after being apprehended for violating the terms of his house arrest in relation to a hit-and-run.

Davis had been ordered to do 90 days of house arrest at his trainer Calvin Ford’s home. In addition to this, Tank was required to do three years of probation and 200 hours of community service.

Although that may have been the case, Davis breached the terms. The star stayed at the ‘Four Seasons’ hotel without telling the authorities, as well as buying a reported $3.4 million house.

As a result, Davis was required to do the rest of his house arrest in jail. But now that he is out, the attention has turned to his next fight.

It is not reasonable to expect Davis to jump into a big fight straight away. Therefore, any potential fights against Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson can be realistically ruled out for now.

As such, a tune up of some sort is more realistic. With that being said, this is what Espinoza said.

“I think it’s a little bit premature. I heard Colbert say maybe 130 or maybe 135, so nothing’s been determined. Tank is just out, just starting to get back into the gym.

“I do expect to see him this weekend. I do expect him to attend the fight [Spence/Crawford], but we really haven’t engaged in those discussions yet, so everything’s open. All bets are available.

“All fights are available. Isaac Cruz a possibility for Tank I think it’s an option, and I think it’s an interesting one because of Isaac’s [Cruz] style and the fact that neither one of those guys was completely satisfied with how the first fight went,” Espinoza

Regardless of what Davis does, he has put himself out there as one of the best lightweights. And provided that he keeps winning in dramatic style, it will not be long before Davis becomes involved in a major fight once again.
