Davis vs. Cruz Rematch In The Works

Gervonta Davis vs. Isaac Cruz is reportedly being discussed as the two fighters could have a rematch.

The pair last fought each other all the way back in 2021 when Davis won via a unanimous decision. Although that may have been the case, the fact that Cruz managed to go the distance won him many plaudits.

In the aftermath, however, it emerged that Tank had injured his hand during the fight. Therefore, there was a narrative running after the fight that Davis and Cruz had some unfinished business.

And given that Tank is looking to get back in the ring following this recent release from house arrest, Cruz has been earmarked as the perfect opponent.

Davis’ Next Fight

“Isaac Cruz, he apparently has a date with Tank Davis,” said ESPN’s Mark Kriegel

Those words have also been echoed by Davis’ coach, Calvin Ford, who recently indicated his desire to see Tank take on Cruz. Despite that being the case, Davis has still not fought a big name in the lightweight division.

Talks of a fight with Shakur Stevenson have been downplayed for now, with suggestions that the financials do not make a lot of sense for Davis’ side.

“If you look at the numbers they’re putting out, it doesn’t make sense. Once they understand the business, you can’t go in there asking for a whole bunch of money. Shakur got offered some money from Devin Haney. Do you see the way he turned it down? Tank isn’t taking a pay cut. I wouldn’t say it’s his biggest fight [Shakur]. His biggest fight is every fight. Y’all see that. It’s just another fight we got to look at”, Ford

Therefore, in the meantime, Cruz is seen as the frontrunner.

“I would say, Pitbull. I will always say Pitbull. “Yes, we want to prove that point. And I know he (Gervonta) wants that fight to beat him again. It would be another huge fight,” Ford

Ultimately, Tank will dictate the fights that he wants by virtue of being the cash cow in the division. And there is no getting away from that.
