Davis Rules Out Crawford Fight, Canelo Happy To Face Crawford

Gervonta Davis has ruled out a fight with Terence Crawford moving forward at 147.

Tank had infamously claimed that he would knock out Crawford if they ever met. This was prior to Crawford facing Errol Spence Jr. when Davis claimed that Bud would lose due to his glass chin. Although that may have been the case, Bud dropped Spence three times before he stopped him in the ninth round. In the aftermath of that process, Bud made it clear that he would stay at 147 in order to face Tank Davis.

Crawford On Davis

“He just talkin. You know, he got the confidence in his self that he believe that he can do that, because he been knocking all these fighters out that he’s been in the ring with. You know, so no knock to Tank, but there’s definitely levels. You know, and if he come up to 147 and he’s thinking he’s just gonna knock Terence Crawford out, he got another thing coming.

“Yeah, I’ll stay at 147 for him because that’s a big money fight. It’s a big money fight. You know, yeah, but then what? Everybody gonna say he was too small,” Crawford

Despite that being the claim, Davis has now revealed that his intentions were not to get that fight. This is understandable since he has been released from prison recently for violating the terms of his house arrest in relation to a hit and run. As such, it would make it unreasonable to then face the undisputed welterweight champion.

Davis On Crawford

“Nah, it was just some talking on Twitter(spaces) going back and forth joking around, but you know how people do. I’m the face of boxing so they make a big deal out of anything,” Davis

Ford On Cruz

This naturally begs the question: Who would Davis face? Well, as of now Davis’ next fight appears to be Isaac Cruz. Reports indicate that the pair could have a re-run of their fight in 2021 when Davis beat Cruz via a unanimous decision.

Although that may have been the case, Cruz managed to last the distance. And in the aftermath of the fight, Davis revealed that he had injured his hand. As such, there was a longing to see the two run it back.

Davis’ coach, Calvin Ford, confirmed as much.

“I would say, Pitbull. I will always say Pitbull. “Yes, we want to prove that point. And I know he (Gervonta) wants that fight to beat him again. It would be another huge fight,” Ford

Alvarez On Crawford

In response, Canelo Alvarez has accepted the idea of fighting Crawford by responding in kind. That would provide Alvarez with another opportunity to have a mega fight against someone who will be moving up numerous weight divisions. Jermell Charlo will move up two weight classes from 154, while Crawford would be moving up three weight classes. And yet, even if Canelo were to get the victory, the chances of him getting a lot of credit would be slim.

After all, Alvarez has been accused of avoiding the big name fighters in the division such as David Benavidez. However, before even this happens, Alvarez must overcome Charlo. But if he manages to do that, then it could be Crawford next.

“You never know in boxing. It’s possible, why not? If it makes sense, I’m down to do it. I don’t care who is there. I’m always able to fight anybody. Look, I respect Crawford. He’s a great fighter. I always say no disrespect to him, but sometimes it’s a little crazy that people talking about me facing too small fighters. Charlo, he’s big, and everybody is talking about me fighting Crawford, a fighter at 147, who is smaller than Charlo,” Canelo

Nevertheless, one potential problem could be who is the A-side. Since both fighters are undisputed champions, there would potentially be contractual issues over the purse splits. Crawford made history by becoming undisputed in two weight classes, while Alvarez is a major cash cow in the sport.

But if those issues can be overcome, then the fan base can expect another mega fight. You can stay up-to-date with the latest happenings in the world of boxing and MMA by visiting boxingblitz right here.
