Davis Demands Two Ferraris From Saudis To Secure Haney Fight Negotiations

Gervonta Davis has responded to Turki Alalshikh’s wish to have him face Devin Haney in Saudi Arabia.

Speculation over Davis and Haney fighting each other recently increased when The Dream beat Regis Prograis to become a two-weight world champion. Issues over Haney’s commercial power disrupted negotiations after reports he only sold 50,000 PPVs for the Prograis fight, thus dismissing his claim as the A-side.

The weight class is also problematic as Tank fights 135 pounds, whereas Haney is a 140-pound fighter. Haney has previously ruled out a rehydration clause, putting the pressure on Davis to face a much bigger Haney. In response to the stalled talks, Turki Alalshikh said he wanted to make the fight happen in Saudi this year.

Turki Alalshikh On Davis

“I want him (Davis) and I send message now from you to [Davis’ advisor Al] Haymon: ‘Let’s do job [together], brother. “But Haney I want to see in my country and I send message from you now to him. I will try to do it in 2024. And Davis of course we want him in our country,” Turki Alalshikh said

Davis and Haney are both Muslims, making it a lot easier to market the fight in the region. Now, Davis has responded by demanding two Ferraris delivered to his door by the Saudis for any negotiations to begin.

Davis Reacts

“They made me mad. If they want something, they got to send something to my door, like two Ferraris or something,” Davis stated

Those comments have created the narrative that Davis is putting extra hurdles to avoid a fight. Davis would have to travel overseas for the first time in his career, which Haney has already done. The Dream beat George Kambosos Jr. twice in Australia to win and defend his undisputed titles at lightweight. Therefore, making Davis and PBC agree to such a deal would have to take something big.

PBC’s recent deal with Amazon Prime Video has increased the pressure on Al Haymon to deliver a big fight. Davis is in the running to headline their first card, regardless of whether it is a PPV. But a fight in Saudi Arabia may have to be a co-promotion, something PBC could be reluctant to do. They did it for the Davis vs Ryan Garcia fight, which was also available on DAZN. So, if the fight is big enough, it could happen.

Davis’ Options

If the Haney fight does not happen, crossover boxer “Deen the Great” is ready to face Tank Davis. He has only had one bout but has already called out Shakur Stevenson and Ryan Garcia. Tank Davis is the latest name to be added to that list.

“I know Tank just converted to Islam so he’s my brother, but we still gotta run it. We can do it in Saudi if he wants, so we can go pray together after,” he said

Either way, fans want the Haney fight. And there is not getting away from that. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingnews.com.
