Dana White Won’t Retire From The UFC – ‘Drop Dead, I Love It’

Dana White has refused to entertain rumors that he will retire from the UFC.
White is the current CEO of the organization, having helped make it the biggest MMA brand. He had the opportunity to leave the sport when Endeavor bought the UFC for over $4 billion in 2016. But since then, he has doubled down on his position. He has expanded the UFC despite the increasing competition from the PFL, ONE Championship, and other fight brands. He has also presided over the first-ever combat sports event at The Sphere at UFC 306, making it a historic event.
However, White has also repeatedly been involved in other ventures. He helped set up Power Slap in 2023, which became a viral sensation. This is despite increasing concerns about the sport endangering the welfare of its participants. White was also recently appointed by Mark Zuckerberg to the Meta Board of Directors. Dana talked up the potential benefits of AI, and he was looking forward to helping expand the Meta brand. White also made recent suggestions that there would be an announcement about the UFC’s potential entry into boxing.
White helped put on one of the biggest boxing fights ever when Conor McGregor took on Floyd Mayweather in 2017. While McGregor was stopped in the 10th round, he walked away with $100 million. The fight also sold over 4 million PPVs views, making it one of the highest grossing fights ever. The increasing number of ventures has suggested that White could take a back seat from the UFC.
White On His Future
This is particularly true since he has been involved in high-profile incidents that have been tough to deal with. He apologized after a video was leaked showing him slapping his wife at a New Year’s Eve Party. He also faced criticism for his support for US President Donald Trump, who was recently elected for his second term. But White is his own man. He shut down those suggestions by stating that he will continue into his long age as he has no plans on walking away.
“Everybody changes when you make a lot of money. No matter what walk of life you’re in, once you get to a certain level of success, you have to be a certain type of person to stay hungry and get out and fight every day. When we sold in 2016, 99 percent of the people said that I was going to retire and walk away. I’m not wired like that.
“I’m still out building new brands and doing shit that I don’t need to be doing. But I do it because I love it. You know how many people in a sale like mine in 2016, you never see that guy again? They’re done. I will never retire. Ever. I will keep dogging this out until the day I drop dead. I love it, 100 percent. Hopefully [I’ll be 80 years old ringside],” White said
