Dana White Still Has No Answer Over McGregor's Return - 'Money Complicates A Lot Of Things'

Dana White has once again explained the latest behind Conor McGregor’s delay.

The Notorious looks no closer to returning since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. McGregor underwent treatment after the loss, but his return was expected in 2023. His failure to enrol in USADA testing prevented that, as he was required to give two negative samples over a six-month period before he could compete.

McGregor did that shortly before USADA left, as his return was in line for UFC 300. That will not happen, nor will McGregor’s announcement of a Michael Chandler bout for June 29. That has left serious questions over whether McGregor will return, with White recently confirming he wanted him to have a full training camp. Since money is not an issue, there is no rush to get McGregor out until everything is in order.

White On McGregor

“First problem was that he broke that shin bone. He was recovering from that. That was one of the reasons. The other problem is he’s f*cking rich.I don’t know. Conor McGregor’s got a lot of money. Any time we get Conor, we’ll be happy. You know, we’ll be thrilled when he comes and fights. Money complicates a lot of things. He just filmed a movie. He’s got to do the press for the movie, and he’s got obligations with that. He does want to fight this year, but we’ll see what happens,” White said

Nevertheless, there are concerns that his mass inactivity damages McGregor long-term. He has lost the last three fights out of four, showing he is not in the best form. At 35, he is in the latter part of his career. Reports also indicate McGregor has two fights left on his UFC deal. This has put the UFC in a strong position to dictate how they utilize McGregor and get the most value out of him.

Will He Return?

This is especially true since there is no guarantee that they will extend McGregor’s deal. He has been linked with a massive crossover fight with Manny Pacquiao. McGregor’s only boxing bout came against Floyd Mayweather in 2017. Despite coming out second best, reports indicate he made $100 million from the bout. A fight with Pacman could generate another big purse, given that Saudi Arabia has shown a desire to make it happen. But White still expects to do business with McGregor.

“Conor McGregor has probably been one of the best business partners we’ve ever had. Getting Conor to show up to sh*t on time is a problem. But Conor, as far as the business goes, everybody talks about how Conor used to be on the dole and all this stuff. For a guy that was on the dole, Conor McGregor is a very good businessman, and Conor McGregor has always been a great partner to us,” White added

With no clarity over his next move, MMA fans will have to wait longer to see their man again. Find all the latest boxing news and MMA breaking updates on boxingnews.com
