Terence Crawford knocked down Errol Spence Jr. three times to become the undisputed welterweight champion of the world.

Bud dominated his opponent in a fight where he staked his claim as the best pound-for-pound fighter. The opening round was cautious, as Crawford and Spence were downloading the information from their opponent.

Spence shaded the opening round as his body shots made an impression with the judges. Thereafter, however, it was one-way traffic as Crawford’s talent came to the fore.

In the second round, Crawford sent Spence to the canvas with his jab as Spence overextended with the jab to his body.  With that being said, Spence was never the same.

Crawford Dominates

Bud continued to push Spence back, as the bigger fighter had no answer to Bud’s footwork, jab and ring IQ. Spence’s nose and mouth began to bleed, as Crawford’s combinations were ever-present in the fourth round.

Although Spence did continue to target Crawford’s body, Bud merely pulled himself apart. Crawford landed an overhand right, putting Spence down in the seventh.

And another knockdown followed in the same round, as a right hook caught Spence unaware. And with the writing on the wall, Bud landed numerous punches including a right hook, and a left as the bout was stopped in the ninth.

Crawford’s Win

“Like I said before, I only dreamed of being a world champion. I’m an overachiever. Nobody believed in me when I was coming up, but I made everybody a believer. I want to thank Spence and his team because without him none of this would have been possible.

“It means everything because of who I took the belts from,” he says. “They tried to blackball me. They kept me out. They talked bad about me. They said I wasn’t good enough and I couldn’t beat these welterweights. I just kept my head to the sky and kept praying to God that I would get the opportunity to show the world how great Terence Crawford is. Tonight, I believe I showed how great I am.

“Errol Spence is a tremendous talent and he’s got a great jab,” he says. “We were worried about the jab coming in because that’s how he sets up all of his shots. Our main focus was the jab. You take away his best attribute. The rest is history,” Crawford

“He was the better fighter on the night, he dictated with the jab, my timing was a little bit off and he was catching me between shots,” Spence said, per the BBC.

“His timing was just better tonight, I make no excuses. He was the better man tonight. He was throwing the harder jab, he had his timing down on point,” Spence
