Crawford Still Wants Canelo At 168

Terence Crawford has doubled down on his beliefs that he wants a fight with Canelo Alvarez at 168 pounds.

In the aftermath of Bud’s victory over Errol Spence Jr, the talks turned towards his next opponent. After all, since he had become undisputed in a second weight class, there was not a whole lot for Crawford to prove.

And since he is 36-years-old and entering into the latter parts of his career, the time for Crawford to secure mega fights is running out.

He had suggested a catchweight of 158 pounds in order to secure a fight with Canelo. However, given that the Mexican has not fought below 160 since his fight with Danny Jacobs in 2019, Alvarez was not keen on taking the fight.

Instead, Canelo suggested that a fight at 168 seemed more reasonable. As a result, Crawford was receptive to the idea, much to the shock of everyone. And now he has doubled down on that belief by stating that he is serious about making it happen.

Crawford On Canelo

“Why is it ridiculous? I meant what I said. Listen, listen, that would be my opportunity to show everybody how great Terence Crawford really is. If Canelo win that fight (Charlo) and accept that fight and I come up to 168 and challenge him from undisputed at his weight, and that fight happen, then you know, man, I’mma just show everybody that skills pays the bills and I’ve got the skills to do it all in that ring,” Crawford

This naturally begs the question: can it happen? Well, given that Crawford and Alvarez have now worked with the PBC, the chances of the fight happening would be a lot greater.

And given that there are still calls for Canelo to take on the dangerous David Benavidez, a fight with Crawford could silence the critics.

Regardless of what the case may be, Crawford make it clear that he did not have too much time left in the sport. His following comments confirmed as much.

Crawford On Retiring

“Not much longer (fighting) at all. I don’t know right now I’m still wishy washy. I don’t know where my career is going. I for sure want the Canelo fight. I for sure want the Charlo fight but I got obligations with the Spence fight as well. That’s another fight that is intriguing. But outside of those three opponents, you know, there’s nothing for me to do in the sport of boxing anymore,” Crawford
