Crawford Reacts After Being Mistaken For Kendrick Lamar

Terence Crawford has reacted after he was mistaken for rapper Kendrick Lamar at UFC 306.

Crawford attended the UFC 306 card from The Sphere, which featured the headline event between Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili. The card went against Canelo Alvarez’s boxing fight with Edgar Berlanga, but Crawford chose to attend the UFC fight with Turki Alalshikh. As they were watching the card, the camera panned towards the two. As it did so, the screen referred to Crawford as Kendrick. Crawford threw a big smile at the camera while the combat sports community took that all in jest. Dana White reacted to the incident, stating that there was some resemblance. Now, Crawford has had his say.

Crawford Reacts

“I just wasn’t taking any notice of it, and then I started seeing the pictures on my phone and everyone laughing. I didn’t [hear from him]…to be honest, I think it was intentionally done. Just for laughters, because how can you get us mixed up? But all in all, it was funny to me,” Crawford said

While Crawford found the incident amusing, he had bigger things to focus on. He recently became a four-weight world champion after beating Israil Madrimov in his last fight. Bud picked up the WBA Junior Middleweight Title. After his win, he doubled down on his desire to face Canelo Alvarez.

That would require him to move up two weight classes. Canelo is coming off a unanimous decision win against Edgar Berlanga. Canelo dominated his man, as Bud reacted by calling out the Mexican. A fight with Crawford, David Benavidez or Dmitry Bivol is the biggest one out there. Canelo has said he will take some time off before deciding what he will do next.

“I did good. Now what are they gonna say? I fight younger fighters; before they say I only fight older fighters. They always talk. I’m the best fighter in the world. He said he respects me, I’m his idol. He said he feels bad for the way he acted. But you know, he did good. With adrenaline, I got a little angry. I’m Mexican, man. Viva Mexico, cabrones. I’m gonna rest, enjoy my family now, and then I’m gonna decide,” Canelo stated

Crawford’s Future

If the Canelo fight does not transpire, Crawford must decide if he wants to pursue undisputed at 154. He has the opportunities for unification. He could unify against Sebastian Fundora, the current WBO and WBC Champion. Fundora has been linked with a fight against Errol Spence Jr. Spence wanted the Fundora fight once the latter beat Tim Tszyu to get the belts.

A fight has not been announced. But if it happens, there is a narrative in the place for a Crawford rematch with Spence at 154. Alternatively, Crawford could chase a fight with Tszyu. Tim will box Bakhram Murtazaliev, who is the IBF champion at 154 in October. If Tszyu comes out with a win, there is another unification bout there for him. But these are risky fights, which will produce a smaller purse than the Canelo fight, leaving Crawford with plenty to ponder.
