Terence Crawford has opened up on how he felt after defeating Errol Spence Jr

Crawford dominated Spence to stop him in round nine, as he became the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era.

The result also propelled Crawford to being undisputed in a second-weight class that made him as the best pound-for-pound fighter.

In the aftermath of the fight, Crawford hit out at his critics after feeling that his accomplishments were downplayed. After all, prior to the fight, Spence questioned Bud’s resume by stating he had ‘fought nobody.’ And those comments did have an impact on how he felt post his victory.

Crawford On His Achievements

“A lot of people were like, ‘Man, you didn’t look too happy after you won. I didn’t see the excitement in you.’ I was like, man, I was happy. I was happy I had to prove myself to the world how great I knew I was. But at the same time, I was kinda disappointed at the same time that it took this long for me to get my recognition, for me to get a big marquee fight at this status, at 35 years old,” Crawford

Canelo On Crawford

Unfortunately, that perception has continued in the aftermath. Following links with a fight against Canelo Alvarez, the latter also questioned Bud’s resume by claiming that he only fought one top name in the form of Spence.

“No, look, like I always said, I respect Terence Crawford. He’s a very talented fighter but he just won one big fight. “If you see his record, he just beat one good fighter in Errol Spence. Other than that, I don’t think he’s beaten other great fighters like Spence,” Canelo

Although that could simply be an attempt to increase the anticipation around such a fight, in truth, it shows that boxers are only as good as their last fight.

Therefore, Bud may still have some doubters to silence. And the only way to do that would be to beat Crawford. So will it happen? Time will tell.
