Terence Crawford confronted Eddie Hearn in a trash talk battle ahead of his fight with Israil Madrimov.
Crawford boxes Madrimov on August 3 in his first fight at 154 pounds. A win makes Crawford a four-weight world champion, with Madrimov’s WBA belt. Bud arrives into the fight with the best win of his career. He sent Errol Spence Jr. to the canvas three times before getting the stoppage in round nine. That made Crawford the first Undisputed Welterweight Champion of the four-belt era.
Hearn represents Madrimov, which is why he is backing his fighter to get the win. However, Crawford reminded Hearn that he had beaten three world champions he had represented before. The most notable one was Ricky Burns, who lived in his backyard in Scotland. Burns was a three-weight champion, but Bud beat him to win via a unanimous decision to win the vacant WBO Lightweight Title. Looking ahead to the fight, Crawford was ready for the smoke.
Crawford Vs. Madrimov
The clip above shows Bud firing verbal shots at Hearn, who tried to get into his head. Madrimov is an experienced operator in the amateur circuit. He has over 300 fights, which means he is accustomed to all styles. He must be on his A-game, given that Crawford can switch from orthodox to southpaw.
Bud is also undefeated with a 40-0 record, which includes 31 stoppages. He stopped all his opponents at welterweight, but it remains to be seen if he can do that 154. Madrimov helped prepare Dmitry Bivol, who went on to beat Canelo Alvarez. He will have to deliver a masterful performance himself if he is to come out victorious. Bud was intent on walking out victorious, as he traded words with Hearn.
Crawford Vs. Hearn
Crawford: “You talk a good game. You ain’t better than me at nothing.
Eddie Hearn: “You’re very nervous today. I don’t know what’s wrong with you. Your energy is all off. I’m worried about you on Saturday. I don’t think you’re taking this fight right.
Crawford: “I’m 3-0 against you, sir.
Hearn: “That doesn’t matter. You fought against Ricky Burns at 135 pounds. Indongo.
Crawford: “That’s your best champion [Ricky Burns].
Hearn: “That’s your hardest fight. This is going to be your hardest fight this Saturday. 115-113, it should have been a draw. Look at the scorecards.”
Crawford knows a win sets up other big fights. There is the chance of a Spence rematch. Spence is expected to box Sebastian Fundora, the WBO and WBC Junior Middleweight Champion. If Spence takes that fight and beats Fundora, there is a big unification on offer. The narrative was that Spence was weight-drained when he boxed Crawford at 147.
At 154, there should be no excuses. Alternatively, Crawford could move up to fight Canelo Alvarez at 168. That was the initial aim since beating Canelo makes Crawford undisputed in a third weight class at 168. Since Canelo is no longer undisputed after the IBF stripped him, the fight is not as big. However, it is still a huge payday with the chance to beat an all-time great. But it all depends on getting past Madrimov first.
