Crawford Beats Inoue To Top Ring Magazine's P4- Rankings

Terence Crawford topped Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound rankings, holding off Naoya Inoue.

The rankings are naturally subjective, and both boxers have had a remarkable year. Crawford beat Errol Spence Jr. in dominant fashion to become the first undisputed welterweight champion of the four-belt era. The victory also made him undisputed in two weight classes after his achievements at junior welterweight.

Inoue capped off an incredible year by stopping Marlon Tapales from becoming the undisputed super bantamweight champion. The win made him undisputed in a second weight class, like Crawford, after doing the same at bantamweight.

Both boxers are undefeated, leaving very little to split between them. But given that Inoue fights in a smaller weight class, that has historically made it much more difficult to get the recognition. Regardless, Crawford saw himself as the best.

Crawford Reacts

“When I say I’m P4P best fighter in the world, this is what I mean. You could put me in any weight category if I was that size and I would still dominate. You definitely can’t say the same for everyone else. Some don’t have the style for smaller fighters or bigger fighters I do.”

“How many of y’all favorite fighters had a close fight or a fight they didn’t dominate or lost? There’s not one fighter I’ve fought professionally that can say I didn’t dominate them. I never liked to talk because I did my talking in the ring. But I’m really him, better ask somebody,” Crawford said

The manner in which Crawford beat Spence was impressive. He dropped him three times in a fight where many had picked Spence to win. The perception was that he would be too big and strong for the welterweight. Antonio Tarver has also backed up Crawford’s greatness. He questioned Inoue’s resume by looking at the names he had fought.

Crawford Vs. Inoue

Despite beating 13 world champions from past and present, Tarver felt that Inoue had not beaten a big name. Inoue has big wins over Stephen Fulton and Marlon Tapales. Crawford has wins over Shawn Porter, Kell Brook, Amir Khan and Spence, showing he has fought elite-level competition. He has also knocked out every welterweight he has ever fought. That is why Tarver still had Crawford at number one, given that he had a more impressive resume.

“They gotta stop this!! Who he beat? That’s disrespectful. We haven’t seen enough of Inoue and answer me this, how many P4P champions has he defeated? He ain’t fought a top fighter and those lighter divisions with no real names in them can’t count as mush as the glamour divisions where top fighters are known to roam. He (Inoue) in the top #10. Until someone defeats Terence Crawford, he’s the #P4P Champ. Stop playing with his name and his brand,” Tarver stated
