Cortney Casey, the UFC flyweight, has been suspended by USADA for four months after having a banned substance in her system.

The MMA fighter received the suspension after having reported the adverse finding herself. Casey had tested positive for BPC-157, which had been used to treat her medical issue. Despite this being the case, the substance was banned under USADA.

Casey had attempted to get an exemption under USADA. However, this was rejected. As a result, Casey will now begin the suspension which has been pushed back to start from June 1st, 2023. The suspension could have been harsher had it not being for Casey reporting this.

Casey’s Punishment

“USADA announced today that Cortney Casey, of Glendale, Ariz…has accepted a four-month sanction for a violation of the UFC® Anti-Doping Policy. Casey, 36, self-reported the use of a prohibited substance, BPC-157, to the UFC on June 21, 2023. BPC-157 is a Specified Substance in the class of Non-Approved Substances and is prohibited at all times under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy and UFC Prohibited List. Casey immediately provided documentation confirming that she was prescribed and provided BPC-157 by a doctor to help treat a medical condition. Casey’s four-month period of ineligibility began on June 1, 2023, the approximate date that she last used the prohibited substance,” USADA

Implications For Casey

That is a mixed bag for Casey in that the suspension will always be on her record. However, given the length of ban, it could have been much worse on any other given day.

And perhaps this shows that there needs to be more regulation over the rules. This is to prevent similar cases like this again. After all, if it is for a medical issue, there has to be stricter guidelines over when it becomes an issue. And there is no getting away from that.

Pat Miletich Arrested

Meanwhile, Pat Miletich, the UFC Hall-of-famer, was arrested on September 14th, 2023, on the basis of a drunk driving charge.

According to reports, Miletich was apprehended by the police in Bettendorf, Iowa. This was after the authorities received a call that a driver was driving the wrong way.

It is alleged that Miletich had fallen asleep in the vehicle, which required the officers to then wake him up. The authorities had noticed a “fresh damage to vegetation growing on a retaining wall” in the car park, which showed on the damage of Miletich’s car.

Thereafter, Miletich refused to undergo any tests to check his sobriety levels and a blood test. However, that was accompanied by him having numerous issues. This included bloodshot eyes, and unsteady legs as it became clear that alcohol was an issue.

And so it showed as Miletich revealed that he had been drinking wine. This was the third time that Miletich had been arrested on this charge, having experienced this in 2019 and 2021. Miletich was then released on the same day and released on a $5,000 bond.

Clearly, this is not the best look for Miletich moving forward. And if he wants to be remembered for his MMA skills, the ex-fighter has to keep things outside of the cage in order.
