Conor McGregor Angers Hollywood With His Movie Debut – ‘I Probably Have A Few Enemies’
Conor McGregor has opened up on his Hollywood debut in the movie Road House.
The two-weight UFC champion stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in the remake of the 1989 film. It centres around the character Elwood Dalton, played by Gyllenhaal, who gets a job as a bouncer. He works at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to be disillusioned with the role.
McGregor is Dalton’s villain, allowing McGregor to utilize the trash talk that he has become so famous for. The film will be released on March 21 via Amazon Video Prime, and McGregor addressed previous roles he had turned down before taking this.
McGregor On Acting
“I had turned down a good few roles in my time on the climb. I’ve had directors show up at fight camp, really beautiful directors doing really top-end movies… And over and over, they’d come to me, and I always turned them down. I’d leave people a little high and dry. I probably have a few enemies out there that I don’t really know of because I had said, ‘I might do it,” McGregor said
McGregor’s UFC career has taken a few blows. He has not fought since losing to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021. That was his third defeat in four fights, showing he was far from the man who became a two-weight world champion.
He has been linked with a fight against Michael Chandler, but there is no certainty over a date so far. McGregor announced on New Year’s Day that he would fight Michael Chandler on June 29. Dana White rejected that, saying he would announce the date when the UFC was ready. While it has taken McGregor time to get into acting, it will undoubtedly have come as a welcome distraction.
“I didn’t know how I was going to take to it. I didn’t know whether I was going to like it, to be honest. I’m a fighting man – that’s my bread and butter. It’s where I come from. I’m not an actor, but I’m show business. That was my vibe to it. I felt that. I enjoyed every second of it,” McGregor added
Adesanya On Acting
Israel Adesanya is another high-profile UFC fighter who has expressed an interest in acting. The former UFC Middleweight Champion has not fought since losing to Sean Strickland at UFC 293, as he lost his belt. After the fight, Izzy confirmed he was taking a break from the sport, indicating his desire to fight for fun, not belts. Acting may become a real possibility, as he admitted to receiving numerous offers for major roles.
“I’ll act, I’ve already turned down a few high-profile roles, because all I want to focus on right now is fighting. I know what I can focus on and if I do [act now], it would be squirrely. But, I’m definitely going to….I’ve already got ties in Hollywood, I’ll do my own stunts too. But also I’ll have my own production company and maybe make some characters, some Anime, some weird ideas,” Adesanya stated
