Conor Benn Wins On His Return, Fails To Stop Rodolfo Orozco

In some recent boxing news, Conor Benn secured a unanimous-decision victory over Rodolfo Orozco on his return to the ring.
The boxer is currently embroiled in a legal battle following his two VADA tests, which showed a failed result for Clomiphene. Benn was cleared to box after having seen his suspension being removed by the National Anti-Doping Agency.
However, reports stress that the decision was based on procedural grounds as opposed to whether he had Clomiphene in his system. And with so much background noise coming into the fight, Benn had to put on a solid performance on the Richardson Hitchins vs Jose Zepeda main event.
Benn’s Return
In the opening round, Benn did not look fazed by being out of the ring for over a year. His right hand connected on more than one occasion as he set the tone early on.
That sustained pressure told in the second round as Orozco’s face was heavily marked up. However, unlike his previous fights, Benn failed to get an early stoppage.

Despite landing a huge uppercut in the third, Orozco used his size to impose the pressure on Benn. While he did connect with shots to the body, Benn took them well as he was never in danger.
During the second half of the fight, Benn had more moments of success. However, he failed to stop the Mexican who stood up to everything the Brit had offered. The fight went to the judges who scored it as follows: 99-91, 99-91, 96-94.

“We didn’t want a walk in the park. I needed the rounds after 18 months out, he’s a true Mexican, my first Mexican I’ve fought, and we knew he was durable. Credit to him, he’s never been stopped before and he’s one tough man and I hope he progresses. They are stronger and take shots more, I don’t think there was ring rust, I was going through the gears after going through hell. Britain is my home and it’s only right I fight back there, sooner rather than later,” Benn
Naturally, the next fight on the cards could be the Chris Eubank Jr. fight. The latter has indicated that he is willing to face Benn provided that the boxer does clear his name.
“There’s some big names out there. I see a few of these guys in the crowd. I’m coming for you Conor, I’m coming for you Kell [Brook]. I’m coming for you. Anybody else who wants it, we’re going to put on a show for the fans,” (Eubank Jr. after beating Liam Smith)
And with UKAD/BBBofC having appealed the decision, there is still some uncertainty over Benn’s future moving forward. He may have secured the win, but outside of the ring, the battle still continues.
